FC: Hannah Lim PDP EDUG 331-02
I was born on December 24, 1991 in Fontana, California to Choon Sik Lim and Inogi Lim. I have two older brothers, Sam (L) and David (R), and we are all 4 years apart in age. I was born into a Korean-American family. My mother immigrated to America when she was 13 and my father at age 25 after he married my mother. Both of my brothers were born in America.
My aunt (mother's older sister) | My brother, David, and cousin Jane
Our family was very close, literally, so there were many people who came to visit me at the hospital. You will see later how my family spent a lot of time together. | My father's parents. My mother's parents both passed away before I was born
Swimming on my own! Just kidding.
Beginning to stand up on my own and crawl with the help of my brother, David.
Me beginning to walk on my own.
My first birthday party which is a BIG deal in Korean culture. Most of us my family are dressed up in traditional Korean clothes, pronounced like "hahm-bok".
Growing up (and even now), I had two personalities-the outgoing side with people I am close to, and my shy/quiet side, which most people see me as. It takes a while for me to be outgoing with someone. I feel like I need to trust them completely before I can open up to them about personal things. But even some things I don't share with the people I am closest to.
And so, the family adventures begin! | Traveling with my aunt's (moms older sister) family. | On a trip with my grandparents
My family often traveled with my mom's side of the family because we lived very close to each other-my mom' sister in Loma Lind and brother in Grand Terrace. Even when we weren't vacationing, I spent a lot of time with my aunts, uncles, and cousins.
On my mom's side of the family, I am the youngest, or in Korean: "maknae". Being my mom's only daughter and the baby of the family, I was taken very well care of.
Firsts | First pony ride, trip to Disneyland, and baby cousin
My first best friend. J.P. was our neighbor and a year older than me. I played with him a lot before we started school, so I was a little tomboy when I was younger. Plus, it didn't help that I had two older brothers either. We never went to the same school, and both our families moved away over time. I haven't talked to him since we were in middle school. Wonder how he's doing now?
My cousin, Jane, is three years older than me. I spent a lot of time with her growing up, and she was a big influence in my life. My first sleepover was at her house, in which I cried and wanted to go home. She is still one of the people I am very close to.
My Kindergarten graduation at the Montessori in Redlands | I moved to Kimberly Elementary school in the 2nd grade.
I always loved to go ice skating, and when i was younger I took figure skating lessons for a few months | I took ballet lessons for a few months, but I cried at my first performance and did not want to perform during my first performance with this costume | I always loved winter and snow. Sledding was one of my favorite winter activities with my family that we did almost every winter.
I began taking piano lessons at age 3 1/2 and have been playing ever since. However, I did not always enjoy playing piano...
..during my preteen and teenage years (10-18), the relationship with my parents got very difficult. I did not enjoy life and all that is had to offer. I would reject any love from family. My parents forced me to stay with my grandparents during my break, but I never enjoyed that time which I truly regret now. I began to struggle with my weight and began to do some questionable things to my body. Fortunately, it never got out of hand (and frankly, I just loved food too much). So, there are not many pictures of when I was in my adolescent stage of development (at least none that are flattering or where I am smiling).
In 4th grade, I moved elementary schools to Bryn Mawr in Loma Linda because my family moved houses. That year, I met one of my bestfriends of 7 years., Adrienne Acosta. I stay in contact with her because we both went to a local college and live at home, but I still do not see her much. I've had many adventures with this beatutiful lady.
In April 2008, I have to privelege to travel to Japan for 3 weeks to participate in the Suzuki 10-Piano Concert. I stayed with a host family, the Komatsus. I had one roommate from the states, Lauren, who was from Kentucky. We did a lot of sight-seeing as well as a lot of practicing for our concert. This was a once in a lifetime experience which I would love to do again if I could. This was my second time out of the country. My first was a trip to Korea when I was 10 years old which I can hardly remember. I hope to visit Korea someday soon.
This trip to Japan was all due to my piano teacher, Rae Kate Shen. She has been my piano teacher since I was 4 years old until I went to college at 18 years old! I still keep in close contact with her, and she was a great influence in my life and still is.
Another first: I became an aunt! | Having babies in our family after 13 years was a big change for our family. There are three more nephews and niece, but I currently don't have a picture with them. Now, the next generation of our family is growing.
Redlands High School Chamber Singers I was in this choir for 3 years. I was student director my senior year. This choir was a big impact in my life. I met some wonderful and talented people, many of which I stay in contact (and go to school) with. Here, I was able to further my singing and also play piano by accompanying the choir. If I had not auditioned for choir, I don't know if I would be pursuing music like I am today. Also, my choir director, Mr. Tuttle was a huge influence and encouraged me to pursue music as well. | New York Tour 08-09
I need drama in my life to keep making music. | San Francisco Tour 09-10 | My roommates | We won 1st place!
High School Graduation! Class of 2010! A great event, more so because even though now I look back and enjoyed high school, all I really wanted at this time was to be out of Redlands and do whatever I want.
However, during the summer of after graduation, I went to a retreat called Power Encounter. At this retreat which I had gone to during the previous winter, I completely surrendered my life to Jesus Christ. It was at this retreat that I truly learned what it meant to be a Christian. I had gone to church since the day I was born, but I was never preached the true Gospel. It may have been preached, but my heart was so hardened and rejecting God up to that point in my life. I had seen so much "baggage" come with the church that I was just going for the sake of my parents. I figured I only had to wait out until I moved out. However, after receiving Jesus in my heart, my life did a complete 180. My relationship with God was on fire, and the relationship with my parents began to mend back together. I had a new family in Christ at my church, and I loved just worshiping and fellowshipping with them
Now, going to college locally was not a concern for me anymore. I knew that staying at home and going to U of R was all apart of God's plan. | I was roommates with my best friend Mounika who I met in high school, but it wasn't until college that we became best friends
Almost two years of college have passed, and although we both live at home now, we are still going strong because of our relationship with God. We both believe that it was by God's plan for us to be friends and going to school together.
The relationship with my parents has grown so much in the past two years. I enjoy our family vacations, although now, it is only me and my parents. I love my mom and dad!
Through new life in Jesus Christ, I know and can see God moving in everything that I do. I know He will continue to guide me as long as I am following. The people in my life and things I have been through have definitely made a huge impact on who I have become. Although this is just a highlight of my life, there are many more people and events that have shaped me. I am grateful and blessed with the family I have now. I am going to enjoy the life God has given me by giving him all the glory in all that I do and living in a holy lifestyle. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord." -Romans 6:23
My Future Although I do not know what is in store for my future. I think God is guiding me in the path of music because He has given me this talent to worship him with. I do not know how God is going to use it, but I will prepare myself with everything He puts in my path.
