BC: Meet Kelsi McFadden! | Kelsi McFadden, now lives in Philadelphia, PA. She came to Ellis island on 1950. She now has 7 grand children on Fillmore st. in Philadelphia. Her best experiences in Ellis island is her and, her friends saw the first fish the ever seen! Kelsi grew up in a central town in Ireland. there w not a lot of ocean around her. Joni grew up in Birmingham Ireland. Her favorite new discovered food in Ellis island was the mango. It was imported on day.

Leaving home.... | Leaving home, I felt like the happiest girl ever! I didn't like Ireland that much there was so much fighting and, everything was the same old thing. The one thing I would miss is my friends, and my grandparents. But I was thankful that my parents where coming. Some of my friends had only one parent coming. We where leaving because we wanted freedom. Tomorrow was the day... I was leaving home! | GOODBYE IRELAND | HI! IM KELSI MKFADDEN

My family felt... | My Parent felt happy but, they where more sad then me to leave the others as in family, and friends my Mom was crying last night because she was leaving my grandmother and, grand father witch is her mom and, dad. I cant imagine leaving my mom. But otherwise they are happy to be free! | MY FAMILY!

On the ship... | I despised this ship. I could not wait to get off! From day one i was completely miserable. The ship would always rock back and forth and, there was no room for me even to breath! I would count down the days until I would be at Ellis island. thinking of the island would be the only thing that brought me pleasure and, the food. everyone hated the food but i absolutely loved it! | I HATE THIS SHIP!!!

When we arrived... | I was very exited to be actually in America. I was reading to meet new people. But we had to go trough a very long process of course. As a child I am very impatient and, we had to wait at least 3 hours! I even said to my mother " can we go check in now?" and, my voice was louder than I thought then I realized its because of the big building and, its echo. Finally we got to go through the process. The men where very mean and, stern. But after a while we got trough but, then we had are health checks, and the money exchange. My sister was one step from going home because she had a cold. My heart was going a mile a minute. Then the money exchange felt like hours. But we finally made it trough and, my new life was about to start...

Living in Ellis island | I was relived to live at Ellis island. I met tons of new friends and some from home lived in Ellis island also! I loved the food they had foods from all cultures and, lots of fruits of never herd of, which are now my favorite foods! Ellis island isn't just a house for me it is a home. I am perfectly happy here. Sincerely, Kelsi.
