My father Lodivico Buonarroti owned a house in Florence and had a little farm in the country. For a few generations, things have been going down hill for our family. We weren't poor, but we had to be careful with our money. My father was offered a job as a magistrate. It wasn't in town, but in a village in Caprese. In late autum they set out for Caprese on horse back. My mother was pregnet with me in the womb. On March 6, 1475 I was born.
When my father's term in office was over I didn't return home with them. Instead they left me with a stonecutter's family. When I was still a baby I was brought back home to stay. But when I was six my mother died and I was brought back to the stonecutters family. I was old enough to try his hammer and chisel. When I was ten i was brought bac k home, because my father had remarried.
My father enrolled me in a grammer shcool in Florence, there I learned how to read and write. My father wanted me to grow up to be a well polished gentelmen, but I had other plans.
In my spare time I would find some paper and I would just draw. When I was thirteen I asked my father's permission to quit grammer school and become a artist's apperentice. My father was outraged, he tried beating sense into me but I wouldn't give up.
Finally I was apprenticed to Ghirlandaio for three years. Though I was only a beginner; I was already woeking with him and his other apperentices. Ghirlandaio took me and another one of his apperenticed and we were taken to Lorenzo, Lorenzo rulled all of Florence. He wanted to have a special art school in his garden. During my first year in his art school. I made to beautiful carvings, I did not need much help. Lorenzo asked my father to see if he can adopt me!
My father agreed and I moved in with him. He bought me expensive robes. I was treated as a prince. | I | It seemed that it just begun, but then Lorenzo died years later and his eldest son took his place.
His eldest son brought terrible things to the palace. He wasnt a proper ruller, he was a dictator.
His eldest son brought me back to the palace just to make a snow man. After that everything went down hill from there. I ran away to Rome and I was asked to make a sculpture of Jesus. I was supose to make it in one year, but it took me two years. The man asked me to scuplt it died during the two years. Once I was done with the scuplture. Everyone knew who I was and I was asked to make many many more sculptures, to many to name. I died at age 89, and did all the things I wanted to do. I hope you do the same.
