FC: Miss Maudie Kayla Shaeffer EmmaRae King

Introductions | Well I do believe that some introductions are in order. I'm Miss Maudie Atkinson. I live in Maycomb County, Mississippi next door to the Finch children, Jem and Scout. I just live for my flowers; they're one of the things I care most about in the world. While not everyone agrees with my flowers, I don't mind them. As long as the kids stay away from flowers, I allow them to play in my yard and sometimes I even bake them cakes for which I am famous for in town.

These are the kids that I have befriended. Jem and Scout live next door to me and Dill stays with his Aunt Rachel during the summer. It always tickles me to see the shenanigans those three get in to. It's not always easy to live next to them, but their troubles (i.e. pointing a gun at my rear) are well worth the smile they put on my face.

Jem | This is Jem Finch, a boy who lives next door to me. His father is Atticus and he has a good little sister, Scout. I can see that he tries his best to take care of her, though you can't always trust a boy of his age to be able to take on such a task. He sure can be a handful when he wants to be. He is growing up and it's hard on the boy, but he's doing his best and I don't blame him for anything that others might; he is a product of his times.

This here is Scout, Jem's little sister. She is a little spitfire, but I think she will turn out fine. I know her Aunt Alexandra is hard on her, but she means well. This child has brought so much light to my life. I don't know what I would do without her; I figure that my life would be pretty boring. | Scout

This was one of the harder things I have ever gone through in all of my years. This was the cold winter night when my house burned. I was fortunate enough that my flowers survived the ordeal and the men there were able to save many of my belongings. I tried my best to put on a happy face after the fire, but I miss all of the memories I had in that old house.

This was one of the craziest things I have ever seen in all my life in Maycomb. One night it snowed, and not only that, but it even stuck to the ground for a surprising amount of time. Poor Scout, she thought the world was ending. It had been a long time since I had seen snow and the kids even made a snowman for me (of me).

This is my rocking chair that I have had for years. Atticus even made sure to save it from the fire for me. I love this old rocking chair and I plan to sit in it until the day I die. That is, unless I'm tending my flowers, which I do as often as possible. | Why, you are looking at my famous cake. I can't tell you how much trouble I have gone through to keep this cake recipe a secret from the rest of Maycomb. Jem, Scout, and Dill sure seem to love it. I try to make it for them as much as possible, especially during the summer.

This here is my garden. I had flowers more after the fire, so now it's the finest yard in all of Alabama. I work hard on these flowers, but I think that it's worth every ounce of energy I put in to them. | This is my gardening hat that I use, of course, to garden. I made sure that the first time Scout came over that she knew not to touch it, but still her rascally brother, Jem, finds ways to get it away from me.

"That Stephanie's been after my recipe for thirty years, and if she thinks I'll give it to her just because I'm staying with her she's got another think coming." (Lee 73)
