S: My Life as a Star

FC: My Star Diary By Molly Handel

1: Dedication This diary is dedicated to Ms. Grosch for being a great teacher.

2: Hi, I am a star. My name is Twinkle. Sometimes, you may wonder what I am. I am actually a ball of hot gases. | I started off as a nebula. First, I was just a ball of gas and dust. Gravity pulled me together. I was a sphere shape. As I got denser, I got extremely hot. The hydrogen turned into helium. When that happens, it is called nuclear fusion.

3: Nebula

4: Main sequence As a child, I was a main sequence star. This was the longest stage of my life. Energy was produced in my core. Hydrogen atoms fused into helium atoms too. All of this creates a lot of energy. My size did not change very much because I had good supply of hydrogen atoms that fused into helium atoms.

5: Our sun is a main sequence star!

6: Red Giant As an adult, I became a red giant star. I got a lot bigger after I was a main sequence star. I cooled off after I used all of my hydrogen. Eventually, I began to shrink. As my center started to shrink, my atmosphere grew very large. It cooled off too. That's how I became a red giant. I was ten times bigger than the sun.

8: White Dwarf Now, I am a white dwarf star. This is the final stage of my life. I have a smaller mass than the sun does, so that makes me a white dwarf star. I am a small hot star. I am the leftover center of an old star. Right now, I have no hydrogen left and I can't make energy anymore. I will live for billions of years until I completely cool.
