September 17th A rich bachelor named Mr. Bingley is possibly moving into Netherfield Estate! This presents great financial prospects for one of my daughters. Since none of my poor girls will be able to inherit our fortune, it is absolutely essential that they marry into a wealthy family so that they will have plenty of money in the future. He is a perfect man with a fortune of four or five thousand pounds a year! I hope the one of my daughters will have the bright, happy, and rich future that I only dream for them to have.
September 20th I have exciting news! It is very likely that Mr. Bingley will marry Jane! My daughters were invited to his ball, and I must admit I had a marvelous time seeing Jane and Bingley so fond of one another! Oh how he admires her! It is very obvious. Mr. Bingley danced with Jane... twice! She was the only one who he asked a second time. Jane was so admired. I am quite delighted with this Mr. Bingley. He is so excessively handsome, and his sisters are very elegant as well. I wish for the best between them!
September 30th I don't exactly know what is going on with Mr. Bingley. He has left town and has been gone for a while... Anyways, I need to express my outrage. Mr. Collins, Mr. Bingley's cousin who is the heir to our estate, proposed to Elizabeth! I knew he would. I sensed that he liked her. I thought this would be a wonderful choice for Elizabeth, and I thought she wouldn't reject a proposal to such an auspicious man who could provide for her. Guess what she does? She refuses him! That foolish girl refused him! I don't know what she was thinking. I told her I wouldn't see her if she did not accept, and still the girl refuses to marry him. My husband wasn't much help either. My daughter refused an offer to inherit our estate... I don't know what to think of her. She is too headstrong.
November 28th I cannot believe what is happening! Lydia went to Brighton and stayed with the Forsters. Clearly they do not know how to take care of guests and watch over young, frivolous children like Lydia. Lydia formed a relationship with Mr. Wickham there and she is supposed to marry him. She rain away! She has brought the family name so much shame, and I am furious with her! They might marry in Scotland. Lydia has no money, so how will Wickham ever marry her? How embarrassing... On top of that, my husband is threatening to fight and kill Wickham. How shameful.
December 2nd Good news! I received word from Mr. Gardiner that Lydia and Wickham were found and are to be married. It is rumored that Mr. Gardiner gave Wickham a large some of money to marry Lydia and live off of a small, yearly income. It was right of him to do so. I am so glad they are going to be married and settled. My husband still is unhappy. Oh well... now at least our name in society doesn't look too shameful since now Lydia is getting married.
December 20th Wonderful news! Jane and Bingley are finally engaged to be married! He came back from town and proposed to her. Not only this but Elizabeth and Darcy are to be married! At first I detested the man, but now I realize that Elizabeth loves him and he is very rich. I am so happy for my daughters. All I wanted was for them to have a wealthy, happy future.
