1: Nicholas Charles Sparks was born on December 31st 1965. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska.

2: Nicholas is a father to five children. Their names are: Miles, Ryan, Landon, Lexie, and Savannah. His wife's name is Cathy.

3: His mother died in a horseback accident when she was only 47. His father was killed at age 54 in a car accident, and his younger sister Danielle died of cancer in 2000 at age 33.

4: Even though as a child his family was poor and he said: "I grew up on powdered milk and ate tons of potatoes," he says for the most part, he had a wonderful childhood and wouldn't change a thing.

5: In 1984, he was the class Valedictorian. He wrote his first (unpublished) novel at age 19 while sidelined by a sports injury.

6: NIcholas went to the University of Notre Dame with a full track scholarship, but got an Achilles tendon injury. Now he serves on the USA Track and Field Foundation's board of directors.

7: He lives in North Carolina with his wife and family. All of his novels are set in North Carolina, because he lives there and is familiar with the area.

8: When writing a book, his goal is to complete 2,000 words each day. He has said: "I don't live to write, I write to live."

9: Sparks runs 30 miles a week and lifts weights 4 times per week. He is a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

10: He contributes to a variety of local and national charities and has spent 5 years coaching track and field at a local North Carolina public high school.

11: Nicholas' first book published is called The Notebook. Most of his novels are inspired by events in his life.

12: He usually visits the sets of his films a couple times, and meets everyone involved and the movie stars. The Notebook, Message in a Bottle, A Walk to Remember, Nights in Rodanthe, Dear John, The Last Song, and The Lucky One have been made into movies.

13: Worldwide, Sparks' books have sold about 52 million copies. Nicholas is on track to publish a novel in October titled: The Best of Me.

15: DEAR JOHN | "Dear John," the letter read. And with those two words, a heart was broken and two lives changed forever...

16: John used to be a careless young man living with his father. He hated his life. So he joined the army. There he became a real man and changed sort of. When he came back on leave, he meets a girl named Savannah. They quickly fall for each other.

17: Two weeks after they met, John has to go back into the army. Savannah agrees to wait for him to finish his tour of duty. They write letters to each other and pick up where they left of when he comes back on another leave. But they start to drift apart after 9/11 happens and John has to get re-enlisted in the army.

18: They begin to grow apart and eventually Savannah send John a letter saying how she has fallen in love with someone else. A little while later, John's father dies and leaves him his coin collection. John comes back for his father's funeral and decides to go see Savannah... You will have to read the book to find out the ending.
