FC: The Hamptons June 18, 2011

We wrote this story for our friends & family who we couldn't share this funny story with us in person. Thank you for your love! We hope you enjoy it. P.S. Sharon did the writing so be warned (except the edits that are in the 3rd person...those would be John)- it will be long, it will be wordy and unnecessarily detailed. Feel free to just look at the photos when you get tired of reading!

After waking up at 6am and driving for 2 hours (well, John did the driving- I basically just supplied the coffee), we arrived in the Hamptons! We were practically the 1st ones there so we found a cute cafe nearby and sat down for breakfast.

So, like we said, we had breakfast. This was not breakfast...we didn't take pictures of breakfast (the camera was in John's bag with the ring which he did not let go of the entire morning until presenting it to Sharon) but we DID eat burgers the night before at this new place called Social Eatz. They had bi-bim-bop burgers (weird...) and delicious appetizers. This really has nothing to do with the engagement story I just thought some type of food picture deserved to be here.

So after eating breakfast, window shopping down Main Street and peeking at a local craft fair, we decided to go to lay out on the beach because it was a beautiful day. As you can guess, this is where it all went down! The beach was tiny, private and quiet. We got comfortable and laid out for about...hmm...10 minutes? After 10 minutes, I was pretty tired of doing nothing but napping so I insisted that we leave and go try something else. John told me that we needed to get our "money's worth" and that we couldn't leave. If you read the sign, you'll see that parking was $10. I was pretty bored at this point and almost gave him $10 in cash on the spot but since it was our anniversary, I decided to play nice. So I asked John if he had gotten me an anniversary present (I had already given him his in the drive over because I am impatient like that).

Surprise - a PONY! Back story: Ever since we started dating, John has always asked me what I wanted for birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, etc. BUT the thing is that John is super generous (if you're reading this album you already know this) so I was secretly worried that he'd actually get me what I asked for (yes, it's confusing but try to follow along). So, since day 1, I've always asked for a horse. Yup, clever =) Cont'd: Anyway, so he passed me this cute pony (the tag says his name is "Tornado") and I was 100% content. He's cute, isn't he? After a few minutes John told me that he had a bigger pony and I had to close my eyes. A bigger pony? Heck yeah! I was excited!

I was tricked-- no pony!! | I'm pretty sure he asked me to marry him or something but the actual sequence of events escapes us at the moment. My response, you ask? Oh, complete & utter *shock*! Before I could answer he started peppering me with follow-up questions. I couldn't say anything (that was recognizable as normal speech) for quite a while so I just made him feel my pulse and check for tachycardia. After 10 minutes or so he confirmed my final answer and we were...engaged? Haha, still feels weird.

John made me promise not to put pictures of just the ring but I figured people would shoot me if we had an engagement album without a photo so here you go! What I love most is that he designed it himself =)

Then we did what any other couple would do right after getting engaged... | Visited the local whaling museum (Yeah, the news hadn't really sunk in yet so we decided to act like it never happened...)

And took my (not so) little cousin to ice cream! (At this point my cell phone was dead so please don't be offended that you didn't get a call!)

The Next Day We celebrated Father's Day with my family (in the AM) and John's family (in the PM). | Here's a few pics of John's bro & sister-in-law -- a couple we hope to learn a lot from when it comes to a Godly marriage! They also supplied most of the pics for this album - thank you =)

J.D. Keh! John's little nephew played so well all day long and he shared the center of attention so well with all the fathers. He's seriously the cutest little boy ever!

 Thank you for reading!

FAQ's 1. When's your wedding? No idea (seriously). 2. Is John moving to FL? Definitely not. 3. What's next? We're going on a mission trip to Honduras at the end of July - John will be playing guitar for the music part of VBS and Sharon will be doing her eye thing. 4. Did John ask my parents? Sneaky, sneaky! Yes, he did - he had dinner with them and asked for their permission. Those 3 schemers lied to me for weeks! | 5. Was it a surprise? Oh my goodness, definitely! We had talked about getting married here and there but I didn't think it would be this soon. 6. Questions about the ring? Please direct these Q's to John. All I know is that he designed it and that it's lovely! 7. Best moment since being engaged? Going to church together on Sunday - we haven't been able to do that together in a long time!
