FC: PORTFOLIO | Rick Riordan's Life By Austin Kelly
1: Rick Riordan was born on June 5th 1964 in San Antonio Texas. | His mother was an artist, musician, and teacher. His father was a ceramist and teacher.
2: Rick went to high school at Alamo Heights, and was the editor for the school newspaper He went to the University of Texas at Austin. And graduated with a double major in English and History.
3: Rick liked Greek and Norse mythology and studied it in middle school. He read mostly fantasy and science fiction in middle school.And was interested in mysteries in high school.
4: His favorite book as a kid was Lord of the Rings, he read in ten times. He also wrote and submitted a story for publication when he was only 13.
5: In college Riordan worked as a music director at a summer camp; Camp Capers. That's where he got the idea for Camp Half-Blood. His first published works were two stories in the UTSA magazine.
6: Later he moved to San Francisco for eight years and taught at Prisidio High school. He had two sons, (Haly and Patrick) and moved back to San Antonio.
7: When Rick taught, he always taught mythology. Later he quit to become a full time writer and continue making stories
8: Rick's favorite characters to write about are Grover or Tyson, because they're so much fun to write about. In his spare time he likes to read, swim, play guitar, travel, and play games with his kids.
9: Riordan's first series was the private investigator series, Tres Navarre. Many of his other books have gotten the Edgar Allen, Mark Twain, and other awards.
10: Rick helped write the first ten 39 Clue books. He wrote the first book that started the whole 39 clues series too.
11: The Percy Jackson series has five books, which include Percy and his friends, Greek Gods, and modern world. They are also New York Bestsellers.
12: The Kane Chronicles has three books, so far they include Carter,Julius, and Egyptian Gods. | The Heroes of Olympus has two books so far and include Percy, Jason, Greek, and Roman Gods.
13: When Rick's son was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia in second grade, Rick told him the first story of Percy Jackson seeking Zeus's lightening bolt, in modern day America.

15: The Percy Jackson Series combines modern day America with Ancient Greek. It shows old adventures and old characters in a new modern day age.
16: His new series, Heroes of Olympus takes a roman leader and puts him in a Greek camp. And puts a Greek leader into a roman camp. Later they set off to ancient Greece to fight the Earth giants that are planning to destroy the roman and Greek gods.
17: Riordan sets up Percy in a Roman camp without any memory and he has to convince the Roman leaders and warriors that there is a huge war about to take place in ancient Greece. And that they most join the Greek camp to defeat the giants.
18: Jason is in a Greek camp and has appeared to have no memory. Jason had to convince the Greek gods that there is another camp willing to fight. But Jason has grown up in the Roman camp. And now the giants are at war to destroy the gods. He was to join his forces.
