1: Sacagawea was born into the Shoshone tribe. | Her Father was chief of the village. | Her name means "Bird Woman"
2: She was kidnapped when she was 13 by the Hidasta tribe. Some stories say she was a slave. Others say she became part of the family.
3: She Married Toussaint Charbonneau who was in the furtrade. Her husband was married to more women also.
4: Sacagawea was pregnant when Louis and Clark arrived near her village.
5: She was asked to join the expedition as an interpreter and a guide.
6: Her son was born on the journey and she carried him the whole way.
7: Stories say, she did not lead the journey but only pointed a direction a few times. Sacagawea was most helpful with interpreting and easing tensions with humans they encountered.
8: After the expedition, she gave birth to a daughter she named, Lizette.
9: Some say she died in 1812. Others say she left her husband and married into another tribe and died in 1814.
10: To this day, Sacagawea is known for helping America be discovered.
