1: Shiann Hemphill | Mrs.Ellis | 5th period | 2/24/10

3: Time: 1942 during W.W 2 | place: On the Cay in the devils mouth | setting

5: "Where are we, Timothy? Near Panama?" "I cannot be sure, young bahss. Not veree sure. | The cay is about an 11 year old boy name Phillip, an old man named Timothy, and a gray cat named stew cat stranded on an island. while on the island they must find food, shelter, and they must build a fire. they have to over come many difficulties, including Phillip going blind. | teasers

6: Timothy an over 70 year old man who is very smart in survival and has a big heart | Phillip an 11 year old boy who lives in Curacao with is parents but gets separated from them

7: Stew Cat a cat that some how ended tagging along with Phillip and Timothy | characters

8: Plot During W.W 2, 11 year old Phillip Enright and his mom bored the Hato, to move from Curacao because of the war.The ship was torpedoed, and Phillip got separated from his mom. Phillip ended up on a raft with an old man named Timothy and a grayish cat named Stew Cat.While on the raft Phillip looses his eye sight, due to head injury from the ship explosion. They ended up on The Cay, the problem was is it's surrounded by coral and no ship could go there. Phillip and Timothy didn't get along at first because Phillip was raised to be prejudice by his mother. Phillip realized Timothy was just trying to help and they were friends. but soon after a hurricane hits the cay and Timothy shields Phillip with his body,and after being over 70 and going through that Timothy died.

9: Phillip had to over come his difficulties and care for himself and Stew Cat. One day he was rescued and reunited with his parents, and after three surgery's he regain his eye sight.

11: I liked The Cay because i never lost interest in it. i never got bored reading it or anything. And it wasn't to predictable witch i love. | This book makes me think of how I've always thought that be on an island alone would be awesome and peace full. But now i see you have to go through a lot blind or not blind.And also made me realize that i so don't want to be on an island by myself

13: Theodore Taylor was born in North Carolina and even though he has lived and worked in many places he still "thinks of himself as strongly rooted in that quiet 'red clay' country down by the Catawba".Taylor wrote The Cay in 1969 and wrote the prequel-sequel 24 years later in 1993.
