14: We have been | approved | for | Remi and I were married in March 2005, about two years later in January 2007 we decided that we wanted to start a family. A year later we still were not pregnant so we began the path of infertility testing and treatments and trying to figure things out. It was very hard on us because we wanted a baby so bad and the process to figure things out was long, expensive and emotional. During the testing process I learned that one of my blood tests, my thyroid came back very low. I had done some research and knew that this is one thing that can make it hard to get pregnant. We went to see a specialist and he told us that he wanted to test my thyroid one more time and depending on the problem he would need to get me on thyroid medication and regulate it for about a year before we could start trying to get pregnant. We went home that day feeling very discouraged. We did not want to wait one more year and then who knows how long after that it would actually take for us to get pregnant. It just seemed so far away, so it was right then in the car that we decided on adoption. I think this decision came
15: easier to Remi than it did me. I was not opposed to the idea, I have always told myself that I would adopt if it ever came down to it. I just thought it never would come down to it. I thought that I would try every possible thing to get pregnant first before I chose that route. But I do know that our Heavenly Father had a different plan for us and this is the path we were supposed to take. Well a few days later we received the test results back on my thyroid and everything was normal. I now know that those things had to happen in order for us to choose adoption. So finally in January 2009 we started filling out our adoption papers and after 5 long months of lots of paperwork, classes, home study, background checks and more we were finally approved and our profile went up on-line in April. We were excited to be on-line but we also didn't have a ton of hope because we were 1 of about 900 couples. How would we get chosen out of all those other wonderful families hoping to adopt. We knew it would be a while, they say the average couple waits about a year. So our journey began... In the meantime we did continue infertility treatments.
16: On our way to... | Towards the end of May we went on a big family CRUISE with my Dad's side of the family. It was so much fun to have everyone there. 24: It's a Girl!
25: she chose us, sending emails and preparing for this baby that all of a sudden she stopped responding to anything. What was going on? We called her caseworker several times, kept trying to call her, email, text and nothing. Finally a week later we received an | About two-three weeks after our profile going on-line and getting home from our family vacation we checked our email and to our surprise there was an email from a birth mom!! After several emails back and forth we decided to meet each other. She was still considering other families as well at that time. So we drove to Logan, met Ferrah, took her to dinner and after a good long talk she pulled me aside and said "I think you should be the one to tell your husband that you're 5 months pregnant" WHAT? I couldn't believe it, she chose us! In the following weeks we continued to talk and we even went to the doctor's appointment with her to find out that it was a GIRL. We were so excited and started putting a nursery together for her. It was about a month or so after | email from Ferrah and all it said was "I am so sorry, but there is no baby being placed for adoption anymore." Our hearts sunk, what had just happened? It felt like someone very close to us had just died. We both took the day off of work that day. We called our families and told them to pass a long the word so we didn't have to. We shut the door to the nursery and tried to move along with our lives. It hurt so bad to go through that, but it did bring Remi and I closer together as a couple and it also brought us closer to our Heavenly Father. We tried to look on the positive side and this opportunity with Ferrah did bring us hope, we had been chosen once so it could happen again. We had forgiven her and moved on.

We had a delicious dinner and my Dad's favorite dessert, Picnic cake. I gave my Dad paper plates and plastic cups but they were actually real hard plastic (not the throw away kind). I gave them to him to tease him because he is very particular about his paper products. He took them to work the next day to tease some of his co-workers.

42: California | Happy Birthday | Mindy: October 23 | Jessica: October 24 | Ryan: October 25 | It was so fun to go to CALIFORNIA with Remington's family. Ryan and Sara even came all the way from Hawaii, but we were sad that his sister Becky and her family were unable to make it. | We stayed at this way cute house that fit us all pretty comfortably, it even had a pool. This was a great way to spend time with the family and especially over THREE of our birthdays. Everyone purchased passes that included | Universal Studios, Sea World, San Diego Zoo and 3 days at Disneyland. We had a very busy week, but it was a BLAST!!
43: When we got to California, a bunch of the family went to Universal Studios but we were so exhausted from our long drive, that we decided to just walk along the beach. It was so beautiful.
44: Sea World was awesome! I loved seeing all the animals and sea life. | Remi has a huge fear of sharks. It was way cool to be able to see them like this though. | Lunch break | Tanner | Russell | Penguins | Flamingos | Shamu was so fun to watch. I'm glad we didn't sit in the "wet" sections because those people got soaked!
45: Petting the Sting Ray | Dolphins | We all got soaked on the Shipwreck Rapids ride.
46: Universal Studios | First of all I have to say that these pictures are not the best because we forgot the camera, so these are from a disposal camera. Rem and I went on our own to Universal Studios because everyone else had already gone or didn't want to go. It was nice to spend some time alone, although neither of us loved this place, but we still had fun. Water World was probably the best part. | During this animal show that we watched, Rem volunteered and this bird flew over to him and took a dollar bill from him. It was fun to see how trained these animals were.
47: Water World Show
48: Isabella | Rem & Olivia | Liana & Mindy | We should have brought Lilo, they had parking just for her... haha. | It was fun to see all the characters, especially Minnie Mouse. | We all bought passes to be able to go to Disneyland for 3 days. It was perfect to be able to go on most of the rides, especially this time of year because the lines weren't too long. I hadn't been since I was about 7 or 8 years old, so I had a blast because everything seemed new to me. I also got to be there on my birthday which was great because Disney gave me $$ to spend in the park since I already had a pass to get in. ( It was get in free on your birthday that year). I can't wait to go back!

55: Panda Bear
60: Searching for our baby... | After having gone through a failed adoption, we decided to put together some pass-a-long cards to help find our baby. So for Christmas we sent out our Christmas card along with this letter explaining our situation and a few cards. We sent them to all our friends and family and neighbors and our ward and our old ward and my clients and just about anyone we could think of. We even would leave a card at the table after we ate out at a restaurant.

63: Every year around Thanksgiving time we donate food to the Utah Food Bank. We go with my dad's side of the family to Walmart and grab a cart and fill it up with whatever Thanksgiving dinner is to you. And then we take it to the food bank. I'm so grateful that we are able to do service for other people, it's always a wonderful experience.
70: Christmas Eve with the Sorensons | It was fun to get together with everyone, even Santa Claus came to see us! Rem and I got all the nieces and nephews puppets, which they loved. Except some of the kids wanted the same puppet as someone else. We did the traditional nativity scene which is always cute. | and | Christmas Morning with Lilo | Lilo is our baby and it was so fun to have her with us for Christmas. She loved tearing open her presents and she especially loved all the stuffed animals we got her (from the DI) because she loves tearing them to shreds.
71: Christmas | Morning with the Moss Family | We enjoyed a delicious breakfast and opened gifts with my side of the family. Once again we all enjoyed watching Lilo with her new presents. She is such a cute puppy. | It's sad to say that this was our last Christmas with Smokey, the very next day we put him to sleep. It was the saddest thing ever, I didn't think I would cry so much over a dog. I loved Smokey!
