1: John F. Kennedy, as president, brought a new spirit to the country. He promoted the Civil Rights Movement and ordered the blockade of Cuba. In November of 1963, he was assassinated in Texas while traveling with his wife and the governor of Texas. bztv.typepad.com

2: Lyndon B. Johnson took over as president in 1963 after John F. Kennedy's assassination. As president, he pushed for the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War. He wasn't the most likable president, but he got the job done. sitemaker.umich.edu

3: Neil Armstrong was the Mission Commander on the Apollo 11 mission to the moon and was the first man to set foot on it in 1969. He is known for his famous quote that he said after he stepped on the moon; "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." 4: Martin Luther King Jr. was the most famous civil rights leader who led many boycotts and protests against the segregation of blacks. In 1963, he delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech which resulted in the Civil Rights Act of 1964. King was awarded the 1964 Nobel Prize for peace. 5: The U.S. sent their first troops to Vietnam in March of 1965. President Johnson's purpose for entering the war was not win, but to cushion South Vietnam's defense until they could win the war themselves. After fighting many battles through the 1960's and the 1970's the Vietnam War ended in 1975, when South and North Vietnam united. vietvet.org

6: This car is a 1960 Chevrolet 2dht, which was a popular car back then. This is a car that many kids dreamed of having when they got a car. Its light blue color and shiny display make it a stylish car. It is said to have been used in movies. 1960impala.com

7: This popular TV show airing from 1966 to 1969 is about Captain Kirk and the crew of the Starship Enterprise, and how they explore and defend space. It features actors William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy as well as DeForest Kelley. This was one of the most watched shows at this time. scifi-movies.com

8: This is the Beatles, a band from England that was very popular in the 1960's. The band members are Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. The band performed all around the country including an international tour in 1964. However, in 1970, the band disbanded, and they all had successful music careers. redriverpak.wordpress.com

9: Marilyn Monroe was the most popular actress of her time. She had a crazy personal life with 3 marriages including one to Yankee great Joe DiMaggio. She starred in the films How to Marry a Millionaire, Bus Stops, and The Misfits.
