Life brings simple pleasures to us every day. It is up to us to make them wonderful memories. CathyAllen | Mr. Fox and the Chickens Auston Lyons Lyons Publishing

One day when he was naughty Mr. Fox looked over into Farmer Brown’s chicken coop and found it full of delicious chickens. Mr. Fox however, was not full of delicious chickens. This would not do at all. Mr. Fox said to himself, “delicious chickens are meant to be eaten but Farmer Brown will chase me away if he sees me. I will sneak over to his farm and take just one plump chicken.

But Mr. Fox being a gentleman, he was having second thoughts. He was a respected member of the forest and farm community and did not want to stain his reputation. And he did not want to have to hurt anyone. He said to himself, “this would be wrong.”

But again he was hungry, for he had not eaten for some time and his stomach had a way of getting the better of him. “But a nice chicken would taste so good right now,” said his stomach. “But it would be wrong to steal from Farmer Brown,” said Mr. Fox. “You’re hungry aren’t you?” asked his stomach. “ Yes but, but,” said Mr. Fox to his stomach “Oh all right I’ll do it!”

All things grow better with love. | Mr. Fox made his way quietly and sneakily toward the chicken coop. Half way there, a horse in the barn stopped him to ask what he was doing but Mr. Fox Was crafty and thought up a quick lie. Mr. Fox said, “Why? I am merely going out for a stroll.”

“ Then why are you heading to the chicken coop looking so hungry?” Said the horse. At that, Mr. Fox ran as fast as his legs would carry him. He ran straight toward the chicken coop and ran around the side. “Last chance to back off,” said Mr. Fox. His stomach said, “Are you going to back off when you’re so close?” “ No,” Mr. Fox said. And so he began to sneak around the side of the chicken coop right to the door. His conscience said, “this is wrong you know.” “ You’re right, but I’m so hungry,” said his stomach. “You mustn’t steal,” said his conscience.

“But I have to,” said Mr. Fox. “No you don’t,” said Mr. Fox conscience. “ But I will,” said Mr. Fox. He snuck quietly into the chicken coop and found Farmer Brown collecting eggs! “Why are you here looking so hungry?” Farmer Brown said.

“ II (sigh) I was going to steal a chicken,” said Mr. Fox. “Then why didn’t you just ask for one?” said Farmer Brown. “You would give me one of your chickens? “said Mr. Fox. “Of course,” said Farmer brown. “Well thank you,” said Mr. Fox. “ No trouble at all,” said Farmer Brown. And so Mr. Fox said thank you, apologized for trying to steal and went home for a dinner of chicken baked potatoes corn and rolls. And never more did Mr. Fox steal. He had learned his lesson.
