S: The Great Depression
BC: The Great Depression was a horrible time for just about anyone who lived through it. My own grandfather lived through it and so I my self saw how it affected ones who lived through it. Something like that scars the rest of your life. And that is what it did.
FC: The Great Depression
1: The great depression was caused by investors buying and selling stock too quickly. And it was also caused by people buying on credit that they could not pay back. These two components were like baking soda and vinegar; when you put them together, the bottle is going to explode at some point. Black Friday was the explosion of that bottle.
2: The Great Depression lasted for six years, from 1930 to 1936. 6 years may not seem like a long time, but during the Depression it was six years of some of the worst American suffering.
3: It was a time when many people today could barely fathom. Children looked on as their parents crying. Children and grownups alike were starving everywhere. Children had to quit school to try to find a job. Many though could not find a job. People tried to run from the depression but it followed them everywhere.
4: Everyone was affected. People that took out loans could not pay them back now so many banks went bankrupt. Farmers could not make any profit off of their crops so the banks foreclosed on their farms. Business also could not make profits and any loans they had taken out they could not pay back. And of course many many people lost their jobs.
5: About the time when the depression began to weaken, countries were entering into a war. This allowed factories in America to make supplies which made jobs and got money circulating again. Then after the bombing of pearl harbor America entered the war which sent many troops over seas which left more opportunities for work for the ones left at home.
