FC: The Great Depression
1: 1. The stock market crash on October 29, 1929 was one of the main causes. This lead to banks and businesses failing. People began to stop spending and everything went downhill from there. 2. The Great Depression lasted from 1929-1941. 3. Life was very hard during the Great Depression. Prices sored and people had little money. Many people lost everything they had when the stock market crashed. Jobs were almost non-existent and unemployment was nearly 30%. | 4. The Great Depression affected everyone. It affected people to different degrees but everyone suffered from the massive economic collapse. 5. Most historians believe that Roosevelt's "new deals" had some part to play in the end of the depression. While they did not stop the downward spiral they did make important steps towards the goal of recovery. WWII also played a large part in America's recovery. Even before we joined the war it helped because our European allies needed supplies. Once we joined the war that opened up millions of jobs both in the military and in factories.
