FC: The Great Depression

The Great Depression lasted from 1930 to 1939. To the people who went through it, I'm sure it was a long hard nine years.

This bad time in history was caused by many things. I will name some of them:Not dividing money correctly, high tariffs, war debts, the overproduction in industries and the stock market had crashed. | The top photo is of men trying to find jobs.

I wasn't there but I'm pretty sure it probably stunk. When the dust bowls came it wiped out all of the peoples crops so they probably went without meals for awhile at some points. The unemployment played a big part in the lives of the people. They needed money in order to buy food and other things they might need. There wasn't a whole lot of money so they needed to be able to know how to spend it wisely. Before the great depression probably most people were careless with their money, so in a way this might have taught them a lesson. But a very harsh one.

The Great Depression had affected all the people of America and the world. It was hard on everyone. Yeah it might have been a little bit easier for some people that were more well off but it was still hard for them. | The woman in the picture had seven children, I can only imagine how hard life must have been for her. The picture with the two men, the billboard says "Next time try the train. Relax." It has a man sitting in a chair. I thought it was kind of funny.

The Great Depression mostly ended by the New Deal programs. It basically helped out the families who needed to buy things like food and clothing. Others had employed people as conservation workers, artists, writers and laborers. Social Security helped the elderly people who could not get jobs and had no savings. Although you would say that the New Deal programs had helped out most of the problems that the Great Depression had caused it still did not technically end it completely. World War two was really the most responsible for the change in the economy. | The picture to your left is of a freight car and a family had made it into their home. On the bottom Left is a Dust Bowl. Scary right? Also the picture on bottom right says "Evacuation sale. Furniture, all must be sold."
