Your home is the first place you turn to when you need guidance. | Dedication | My name is Steph and my intent for this project is to inform people about experiences my that I'm too scared to say out loud. I dedicate this book to my mom because she has always been supportive in my decisions and has loved me no matter what.

Stephanie | A couple of years ago I asked my parents why they named me Stephanie Jean Sybilla Williams. Sybilla after my great-grandma and Jean after my grandma. They were both strong, adventurous, independent woman and had fulfilling lives with amazing husbands and families. They were always so grateful too. My parents hoped my life would turn out the same and that I would always be happy. So far my life has turned out great. I have a loving family, go to a wonderful school, and made varsity volleyball. | The name I would chose for myself is Hailey because it means hero. I would like to make a huge impact in my community and the world, like Martin Luther King Jr. or Albert Einstein. To just make a difference would make me feel accomplished and very proud how I could effect someone.

"A smile costs nothing but gives much. It enriches those who receive, without making poorer those who give. It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes last forever." | New Family | I have always lived in this neighborhood and house since I was born. It's been my safe haven. I can always go to anyone and they will comfort and support me in my decisions. When we play outside there's always kids walking by with their parents, waving kindly. I've been fortunate because I've always lived 5 houses down from the Eastlake library, where I can always learn new things and get a good book to read. Every year Mr. White on Fourth of July, he blows off fireworks and invites everyone on our street, as big and bold as the Indians or Browns fireworks. It's a special event because everyone comes to watch the fireworks and it feels like a real bonding, family event so we become an even stronger community.

Ever since I was born I've lived next to the Southards'. They have a girl my age, Megan. We went to the same grade school and have been close ever since. A few years ago when my grandma died, my entire family was going through a rough time. They were constantly caring and showed compassion. Ever since, we've been as close as a family. Always going over and making memories that will last a lifetime.

"If I could reach up and hold a star for every time you've made me smile, the entire evening sky would be in the palm of my hand." | Baseball | Sports, especially baseball, have always been an important part of my life because my entire family has played it ever since I could remember. We were constantly going to tournaments, games, or practices. My brother, the Southards', and I were always playing baseball games in our front yard. After school, on the weekends, or any given chance we got to pick up a bat, ball, and mitt. We always had fun doing high-pops, grounders, and races. But one day after school, we all agreed to play our favorite game, You're In Or Out. I threw up a high-pop to my brother Brian and he wasn't looking, and it hit him right in the nose. He immediately started crying, like a puppy without its mom, and my parents came rushing out. They heard the screaming, but didn't see what had happened until we told them. They were concerned for my brother, but weren't really mad at me. They told me some helpful advice for the future: That you can have fun, but always make sure that your friend is aware of what is going on before you act. because you never know what the outcome will be. Ever since, I have always been cautious when doing an activity with friends, family, or even strangers.

Words of Wisdom | I love both sides of my family and they have have always been close for as long as I could remember. Getting together for birthdays, holidays, reunions, or just to catch-up on what's new in each other's lives. Everyone gets along well but I have a special bond with my grandma. She is one of the smartest, loving people I know. She always knows how to help people without offending them, the right thing to say at the right time, and giving helpful advice. She is kind to everyone around her, volunteers often, and works to make her community and world a better place. She has always supported me in all of my decisions throughout life especially recently because she loves to come watch me play volleyball for NDCL whenever she can. A couple years ago, I was having a rough week with school and friends, like I was a new girl at school, and she could tell at the reunion. I told about the problem and she gave me amazing advice: That no one can make you feel inferior without your consent. But you should have confidence in whatever your decisions throughout your life and never be afraid to strive toward your dreams.

"I hope you always have a shell in your pocket...and sand in your shoes." | summer fun creates lasting memories

Midview vs. NDCL | I've always been active in sports. I play volleyball, basketball, and fast pitch, and loved it everyday going to practices, games, and tournaments. Volleyball is definitely my favorite sport. The past summer was nerve racking, I was like a new girl at her first day of high school. Open gyms, camps, and tournaments were going by really fast. Tryouts were coming up soon. On the last of tryouts, I was the last person to find out my results. After a 30 minute talk, I found out my results. I made starting varsity outside hitter and back row passer. Last weekend NDCL went to Westlake high school for a quad tournament, We defeated the Riverside Beavers and the Westlake Demons easily. Now came down two the final two teams, NDCL and Midview. It was best out of three games. After battling for a long time, it came down to 24-23 Midview game point. The previous 3 points our big hitters, Cassie and Lauren hit them all out.

My coach, Tom Ray, told our setter Erica to set me the next ball no matter where it went, while I was in the back row. The serve was up, and our lebero Anna passed, and I started my approach to hit the ball. When I did, I got the kill we needed and tied the score. We went on to win in 2 games and the tournament. This shows me that my coach especially in this situation believed in me and it helped build my confidence and self-esteem. And I've maintained that confidence ever since and I'm very thankful to him for doing that.
