BC: The End

FC: My perspective on how imagery is used in TEWWG.

I have read the book Their Eyes Were Watching God and I have pick 3 main reasons how Zora uses Imagery in this story. First I will start by telling about her relationships. Then I will show how she used imagery about Janie's goals in life . Finally, I will end by explaining the environmental expectations for Janie. Then I will talk about how I view a relationship as, one of my major traits, and finally, one of my biggest goals I want to accomplish.

Janie's hair is a symbol of power because Logan loves her hair so much he started to finger it. Then when she met Joe she had to have her hair in a head rag because he doesn't want other people looking at her hair. Then Tea Cake fell in love with her so much he started to comb and it he said it felt so soft and it made him comfortable to comb her long black hair.

Quote: "He had ceased to wonder at her long black hair and finger it. Analysis- Logan finds her hair a mystery because it is so long and soft. Then he starts to finger it because he liked her long black hair because it was so long and beautiful.

Quote: "Her hair was NOT going to show in the store" (Hurston P.55). Analysis: Joe made her wear a head rag so her hair would not show in the store. He made her wear it because he was jealous of other people looking at it. He loved her hair and he wanted to be the only one to look at it and wonder at it.

Quote: "It feels jus' lak underneath uh dove's wing next to mah face" (Hurston P.103). Analysis: Tea Cake loves her hair so much he starts to comb it one day and she asked him why he was combing it. He replied by saying it was his enjoyment. Then he said this quote which means that he thinks her hair is really soft and fluffy like a dove's wing next to his face. He also thinks her hair is the most beautiful hair he ever saw.

Janie imagined love as a pear tree in bloom. When she met Logan she did not like him at all. Then when she met Joe she thought he was alright at first but then he started to control her and speaks out for her. Finally, she met Tea Cake and then she knew she met her perfect pear tree in bloom because Tea Cake loves her for who she is and not for who he wants her to be.

Quote: "Oh to be a pear-tree- any tree in bloom' (Hurston P.11)! | Analysis: Janie pictures love as a pear tree in bloom because she thinks a pear tree in bloom is a beautiful site. Then after she pictures love as a pear tree, she sets out to find her true love.

Quote: "It was a lonesome place like a stump in the middle of the woods where nobody had ever been" (Hurston P.21). | Analysis: She does not like Logan at all because he tries to make her do things she does not want to do. Also, he thinks he is all that because he is rich and rude. She did not like him from the start because she wanted to marry someone she felt comfortable with.

Quote: "He could be a bee to a blossom- a pear tree blossom in the spring" (Hurston P.106). | Analysis: Janie thinks Tea Cake is the image of the pear tree and then she finds out he is by saying this because he loves her for who she is. He does not care what people say about them being together and he will let nothing get in the way of their love.

Grandma pictures a black women as the mule of the world because they should always be working but Janie thinks she should be the laid back type. Then Logan buys her a mule weak enough that she can use because he thinks women should be working at in the fields like the men do almost all day.

Quote: "De black woman is de mule uh de world so fur as Ah can see" (Hurston P.14). | Analysis:

Quote: "Got uh mule all gentled up so even uh women kin handle 'im " (Hurston p.27). | Analysis: Logan Killicks thinks Janie should be working at in the fields instead of staying in the house all day and he thinks Janie is weak so he gets a mule that is not as strong as his. He wants her to work in the fields every day because he thinks that if he has to work she should too.

My Life This is the part of my book where I view how I see relationships, my goals, and one of my major traits.

I think relationships are like hills, they have their ups and downs.

My goal in life is to become a chef. I want to become a chef because I like to be creative and I love to make food for my family because I am good at making food.

I think I am a nice person because I like to talk positive about people all the time and don't seek out the negative in a person.
