FC: By: Mommy, Daddy, Molly & Zeke Klein The Klein Family Adventure Series | Vacations 2011: | A Klein Family Adventure

Summer in Virginia July 31-August 2 | Sukkos in St. Louis October 11-23 | Vacations 2012: A Klein Family Adventure Pesach in Italy April 13-26

Mommy, Daddy, & Molly went to Italy for Pesach. They went with Bubbe, Zayde, Aunt Chana, Uncle Yehuda, Uncle Yaakov, Aunt Shanna, and cousins Ariella, Donny & Yair. Zeke was along for the ride, but that was still a secret.

We arrived with so much luggage! We formed a caravan of luggage carts and made our way through the airport. We stayed at the St. Regis Hotel. It was the fanciest hotel Molly ever stayed at (and she's been to lots of fancy hotels!). After a few hours of rest, the whole family went on a walking tour of Rome. We saw lots of famous places, like Trevi's Fountain. Daddy and Zayde bought cool matching hats. We ate yummy Kosher gelato (you'll see more about that on the next page).

 Outside the Pantheon

We took pictures outside of a cool toy store. We washed our sticky hands. Then we walked to the Jewish Ghetto for dinner at the aptly named Ba'Ghetto restaurant.

Molly was very jetlagged during dinner at the fleishig Ba'Ghetto! The next day, we went back to the Ghetto for a tour. We visited the shul. It was so cold that Mommy had to warm herself like a homeless person.

We ate lunch at the dairy Ba'Ghetto. They used a lot of artichokes. | We spent Shabbos at the St. Regis, then ate pizza at Ba'Ghetto after Shabbos. On Sunday, we took at long, long (7 hour) drive to...

That's not a medieval village, that's our hotel! Wait, maybe the Borgo Egnazia is the nicest hotel Molly's stayed at... We had a beautiful villa! The hotel was in Brindisi, or in Fasano, or, oh who knows! The next day, we got all dressed up, because finally, it was Pesach!!!

On Chol Hamoed, we went on a trip of Jewish Puglia (the region of Italy where we were staying--on the Adriatic Sea). We went to a library which housed a Jewish tombstone, the old Jewish quarter of Oria, where there is a white building which maybe was a shul, because, you know, crazy people used to run around it saying it was a holy place, and a field that probably was a graveyard, etc. etc. | Oria. "Jew's Gate"-- the entrance to the Jewish quarter.

Then we went to Lecce, the Florence of Italy (huh?). We saw a Roman amphitheater and other cool, old things. The next day, we did something really fun that the whole family enjoyed... | We went SHOPPING in Bari! Mommy got fabulous shirts, Daddy got great shoes, and Molly got fun Diddlina toys-- a stuffed animal and cups! Thanks Bubbe & Zayde!

don't miss Shanna's reflection below. cool!

Shnitzel and French Fries... Another fleishig meal at the Borgo Egnazia.

On Sunday (erev Yomtov again), we went to Alberobello, a cool, little town with these fun tiny dwellings with cone-shaped roofs called Trulli. We went inside a Trulli museum--a restored home. The museum had cool furnishings and even a slot near the front door where you could shoot your visitors if you didn't like 'em.

The town had fun shops. We got lots of cool stuff. Molly got a doll and Daddy and Mommy bought a little ceramic Trulli to add to the collection. | We also visited the town of Ostuni, which had an exciting square and more interesting shops. Then back to the hotel to get ready for Yom Tov!

 arrivederci italy!

Summer vacation in Virginia! | At Jefferson Pools, the hot springs that gave Hot Springs, VA its name. Our first stop after a 5 hour drive filled with good chocolate, great ice cream, even better views, and the best company. In the car, we counted Molly's travels: 15 trips, 5 countries (USA, Mexico, Israel, Belgium, Italy), 11 states (MD, MO, DL, NJ, NY, PA, FL, IL, VA, VT, WV) plus D.C., 10 round-trip flights (KA"H).

We stayed at a fantastic historic old hotel called The Homestead (1766). There were lots of fun things to do on the grounds, like fishing in the stock pond | and golfing on the driving range. Molly was the best caddy ever! We also went swimming in the kiddie pool. It had cool fountains in it.

Molly liked playing with Mommy's makeup bag. She thought it was a purse. Look at her cute bathing suit! At night we went bowling and played pool at the Homestead's bowling alley.

We had fun at the hotel, playing chess in the library, | playing in the park, walking around the village (Molly & Mommy got matching key chains), hanging out on the grounds, | playing lawn games like bean bag toss, and chilling on the front porch rocking chairs.

We went on a super-fun hayride through the grounds up to the ski slopes. We saw great views of the landscape and of the hotel grounds. We even saw some deer (a mommy and her baby).

 Lawn chess! | Molly's move... | Checkmate!

No cement staircases here! | Strolling through the "Great Hall"-- this hotel is too classy to have a lobby.

Daddy and Molly liked the President's Club, which had pictures of every president that visited the Homestead--almost all did! | We got upgraded to a suite! Hurray! Dueling remotes! Guess who won this battle!

Feeding the animals | Frontier Culture Museum, Staunton, VA | English farmhouse | West African farm | Look, ducks!

An Irish farm, German farm, weaving loom, old-time guitar, bowling, Mommy & Molly at an American one-room schoolhouse, and more animals!

After the old world farms, we took a shuttle to America and visited a bunch of farmhouses there. We saw old-fashioned toys and yummy corn...and best of all, more animals!

Boy was it hot! We headed over to Luray Caverns, where Molly's first stop was a Coke machine!

In Luray, we had a great time getting lost in a garden maze. The misters cooled us down while we found all the goals! Then we found an old-time car museum nearby.

We went mining for precious stones, using a mining sleuth. Look at our loot! Then it was time to go home, but not before stopping for a yummy dinner at Sienna's.

Sukkos in St. Louis! Hurray! Aunt Shanna polished Molly's toes for Yom Tov (1st time). | Molly learned how to bench lulav & esrog. Here, Daddy's helping her in the sukkah!

Sukkos in St. Louis was so much fun! We spent time with Bahbi, Zayde, Cheli, Avraham Zvi, Mord, Temima & Chanaleeza. Yaakov, Shanna, and Yair were there for the first part of Yom Tov; Chana, Yehuda, Ariella and Donny were there for the second part. On the first day of Chol Hamoed, we went to Eckert's. We picked apples and did lots of other fun activities!

Yikes, that's a small cart for so many people!

Molly had a great time playing piano with Yair. | Molly loved benching lulav and esrog in the sukkah!

Fish! | Chilling out in St. Charles! That's a lot of straws, Yair! | Family photo shoot | Everyone tried so hard to get the kids to smile! It made for a hysterical picture! | Thank you Aunt Shanna! | Molly & Chanaleeza

 Family Photo Shoot!

Welcome to the Magic House! Molly's favorite part was the Bubbles room!

There were so many fun things to do at the magic house! | "This magic house is a great magic house!"--Ariella Adlerstein

Hail to the Chief! | Our newest Supreme Court Justices!

On Hoshana Raba morning, we visited the Budweiser Brewery!

Look at Molly's Rams shirt. Molly clopped hoshanas with Mommy. Mommy bit off the pitom after Sukkos! It's a segula (allegedly). | Molly had so much fun playing with her cousins at Bahbi and Zayde's house in St. Louis! Bye bye Sukkos!

We had such fun vacations in 2011! We're looking forward to more fun trips in 2012!
