FC: What It Means To Be An American

 J. Hector St. John Crevecoeur's letter describes how people of every background came to America and were instantly welcomed. He claims that what all these people have in common is the goal to succeed. They believe that they will have a better life than the one they had in their home country. This picture of Moses leading people to the promised land symbolizes these immigrants coming to America.

This article, from TIME magazine, shows how much America works to help other people just like them. Americans are privileged and we must be able to return the favor. 5: This strong speech delivered by Harold Ickes proves that fighting in a war can be a necessity. As Americans we have to look out for eachother and other people who believe in freedom. Our enemy was trying to take over and build a totalitarian country which is something that every freedom loving American goes against. This picture of Darth Vader represents the Germans who were controlled by a leader that they did not believe in.

One article, written by Peter Ferrara, claims that there is a reward for anyone in Pakistan who kills an American. He then goes on to explain that an American can be anyone with any color skin, any religion, anything. He states that Americans may have differences in appearance or beliefs, but they all believe in the freedom of individualism. This picture represents Americans as a whole.

Edward L. Hudgins believes that dedication and hard work is what being an American is all about. He writes about how his father came to America to make a better life about him and his family. This goal of success and a better life is the same goal of every American and as Americans we work hard for that goal.

Many people today believe that immigrants who come to America should adapt to an American way of living. These people believe that immigrants aren't welcome if they aren't one of us. This article from CNN shows another side that believes it shouldn't matter what they believe in or what race they are, because these immigrants already are American of us if they believe in our freedom.

In America, we have the ability to speak out and create a world around us that we love. This freedom is effective through the democracy of our country. Larry Lessig says when Americans are being prevented from creating a world they love by using the things they admire, then their freedom as an American is being violated. This picture is supposed to represent the creative Americans being held back from what the love doing on the internet.
