FC: Coton de Tulear... the royal dog of Madagascar | Date of Birth: 08.31.2010 | ACE

Ace was born on August 31st, 2010. He was the only puppy and came from a family of aviators.... thus his name, ACE

Meet my family: (top) My mom, Isabelle (flower in hair) with her multi-show champion dad, Soprano and her mom, Cookie, with the pretty black markings. (right under mom is dad, Cubby Bear) with his mom, Mio, and dad, Loup-de-Mer... both are Canadian champions. Great Pedigree.

I love to play with toys. Throw my toy and I'll run after it. I ALWAYS come to you when you call my name. All I want to do is please you and make you smile!!! | Things to do for me... 1. First of all, you can love and spoil me1 2. I am housebroken but since I'm in a new home, you still have to watch me and take me out every few hours. 3. I am taking my meals at the same time as yours... but I am eating only mornings and nights. Don't forget I will have to go out after. I am eating "Royal Canine, small breed puppy food. Easy on the treats, they can upset my stomach... I do like chew items though and I can handle a greenie once a day. 4. Socialism is very important for me. I really need to see a lot of people and play with children. 5. I would love to go to puppy kindergarten. Love, ACE

The History of the Breed 15th or 16th Century: It is thought that the Coton de Tulear originated in the port city of Tulear in Madagascar (currently named Toliara). One account is that their ancestors (thought to be related to the Bichon family of dogs) were shipwrecked during storms steered by Spanish and Portuguese sailors and they washed up in Tulear. 17th Century: France claimed Madagascar and these dogs became very popular with the new French aristocracy. It became illegal for commoners to own this rare breed and today they are known as the Royal Dog of Madagascar. 1970-71: The breed gained official recognition from the Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI) when they accepted them into their registry. 1974: The first Cotons came to America when Dr. Robert Jay Russell sent breeding stock over from Madagascar. 1975: The first Cotons appeared in Europe. 1976: The Coton de Tulear Club of America was formed by Dr. Jay Russell to maintain the original Malagasy breed standard, pedigrees, and registrations. 1992: The Madagascan government imposed an export stop to prevent the threat of extinction of the breed. 1994: Four Coton clubs were formed in the U.S. and Canada. 2005: According to the CTCA, nearly 2,000 Coton de Tulear's produced by 80 breeders worldwide were registered by the CTCA(in contrast, more than 70,000 Cotons have been produced in Europe since 1977). Today: Although the breed is becoming more popular, Coton de Tulear's are still considered rare even in their native Madagascar.

The French word coton translates into English cotton. The texture of the breed's coat makes the Coton stand out from all other dog breeds. | Packed with personality. The Coton is a robust, charming dog with a cheerful disposition. Always in a good mood. Happy. | Though usually seen in white, a range of colors exists in the Coton breed. The puppy color will fade as the dog matures, leaving a mostly white coat. | My dad, Cubby Bear, when he was a puppy.

More About Me from my 1st Mommy... Ace is a tri-colored male who is always in a good mood and very loyal. He loves tummy rubs and games. Try this one... lay in the floor with a blanket over your head... say "Help Ace Help. He will jump around and start digging you out to rescue you... so funny. He is a love bug... a real kissing machine. He will ALWAYS come when you call his name immediately, then sit so proper looking at you for instruction. Ace will follow you from room to room or just sit and watch tv with you. He responds better with love, patience, tenderness and only wants to make you happy.
