S: Collin Daniel ~ Your Birth Story
FC: Collin Daniel
1: COLLIN DANIEL: YOUR BIRTH STORY On Sunday I had been having contractions that were increasing in frequency, duration and intensity. Since my labor with Audrey went pretty quickly (and since this time I was Group B Strep positive, I wanted to be absolutely certain that we would have time to get the antibiotics before delivering) and I was dilated to a 3 and 50% effaced at my Thursday OB appointment, we decided to head in to labor & delivery to get checked out. We arrived at the hospital around noon. I was dilated to 4.5 and 75% with contractions about 5 minutes apart. The doctor decided to admit me with orders to start the antibiotics and pitocin. Around 1:15 he came in and broke my water. The nurse left to run my paperwork, get my IV meds prepared, etc. Over the next 15 minutes my contractions increased to the point that they were coming one after another with no break at all. My blood pressure plummeted and the baby went into distress. By the time the nurse answered our page, the baby's heart rate had flatlined -- TWICE. Next thing we knew the doctor was running in and I was rushed into surgery. I didn't get to say goodbye to Kevin (in fact I had no idea where Kevin was). It was like a scene from ER! This was about 1:45. The baby was born at 2:08 pm. They didn't have time to do the typical anesthesia, so I was put into twilight sleep instead. The last thing I remember before going under was the doctor telling the staff: "I don't want to loose her OR this baby!" Amazingly, Collin and I both came through the surgery great. Unfortunately that evening we were told that Collin's body temperature had dropped to 95 degrees and it was not improving even though he had been placed under the warmers. He had developed an infection (most likely because we did not get time to start the antibiotics for the Group B Strep). He started antibiotics and responded very well. He also developed jaundice which was easily treated in the NICU. Collin joined us at home one week after he was born. He is a very strong little boy whose name appropriately means "victorious".... He has overcome so much, so very early in his life. He is our little miracle!
2: "Twinkle twinkle little star; do you know how loved you are?" | We were so happy when we learned we were pregnant with you! It was a long nine months with lots of special moments, some exciting and some scary. When you finally decided to make your appearance, that too was exciting and pretty scary. In a mere seven minutes you were delivered and it was your birthday! Even though it was an emergency C-section, you were perfect!
3: Welcome Collin Daniel! Thanks for making Audrey a big sissy... | You arrived in a flurry and we were smitten with you from that first moment. You were in a hurry to get here, and we were in a hurry to hold you (especially your big sissy).
5: NICU Baby | After waiting for hours, our doctor brought the news that your temperature was low...a sign of infection. We got to hold you for just a few short minutes before they admitted you to NICU. The nurses there took great care of you, but we missed you terribly and visited you as often as possible. Sissy came by every day and blew you kisses through the window. We finally got to take you home on your one week birthday.
