S: Harper's First Birthday - March 3, 2012
BC: Happy | 1st Birthday!
FC: March 3, 2012 | Harper's 1st Birthday
1: Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday to Harper, Happy Birthday to YOU! | Mommy designed Harper's birthday invitation! She even ordered return labels with Harper's name and address on them! The labels had different characters on them - Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy! She addressed the invitations to Harper's friends and sealed the envelopes with Mickey Mouse and friends stickers!
2: March 2, 2012 - Trying our hardest to get everything set up for Harper's party! We began decorating at 6:00pm and didn't stop until 10:00pm! And we still weren't finished yet! We wanted everything to be perfect for Harper's big day!
6: March the 3rd has arrived! It's so hard to believe that Harper is already one year old! It's funny how her very first birthday happened to fall on a Saturday. We're glad we could have her party on her actual birth day! She was born on a Thursday, but 2012 was a leap year, making her birthday fall on Saturday instead of Friday! Mommy had Harper a Minnie Mouse, custom-made outfit to wear for her party. Harper also had a matching Minnie Mouse hair bow, party hat, and bib to complete her ensemble! Grammy bought Harper some white, patent leather shoes to wear with it as well.
8: Harper was definitely not feeling her party hat this morning! Guess we'll have to settle for a hair bow instead!
9: "No, Mom! Not the big bow!" Luckily, Harper forgets all about her bows just as soon as we focus her attention on something else!
11: Mommy, Daddy and A.J. treated Harper to breakfast at Rudy's Grill. They made Mickey Mouse pancakes for the birthday girl! After breakfast, Harper had to go home and take a nap so that she would be well rested for her party! Daddy stayed home and wrapped birthday presents while Harper was napping, and Mommy went to finish decorating where we left off the night before!
12: "Come inside, it's fun inside!"
13: Here's the entrance at Harper's party! We had pictures of her up everywhere! We also had a photo mat for her guests to sign as they arrived! The color scheme for her party was red, yellow, black and white. Classic Mickey Mouse colors!
15: Mommy made Mickey Mouse goody bags for all the kids that came! There were 36 bags in all! Each bag contained 3 fun size candy bars, a container of bubbles, chalk, fun dough, and glow-in-the-dark neon bracelets. They were a lot of work to make, but they looked amazing! Hey, you only turn one once!
17: Mommy ordered life-size cardboard cut outs of Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy and Pluto to place around the room. She also had a "Happy 1st Birthday" banner made for Harper, along with a matching "I am 1" high chair banner! We brought every Mickey Mouse and friends stuffed animal, figurine, and toy we had at home. We had the entire place themed out! Mommy wanted everything to be perfect for her little princess!
25: Harper's Smash Cake!
26: Harper's birthday hat and bib set!
27: Harper's desert table in progress!
30: Mommy made Harper lots of 'Mickey Mouse' head chocolate chip and sugar cookies! Grandma Susan laughed at Mommy when she made the first batch of cookies. Mommy accidentally grabbed and mixed corn meal mix instead of flour!
31: Granny made Harper some of her famous brownies! And Great Aunt Nora brought cinnamon roasted pecans and some more cookies!
32: Grandma Susan made Harper lots of Mickey Mouse cake pops - they're the 'new thing!' Grandpa Steve got some sheets of styrofoam and cut out three Mickey heads. He spray painted them black and we used them as cake pop holders!
33: Getting the food table set up! We had "Hot dogs, hot dogs, hot diggity dogs!" | Granny and Grandma Terry fixed the hotdogs and meatballs, and Grandpa Steve brought his famous, deviled eggs. We also served peanuts and chips with ranch and french onion dip. Grammy and Big Daddy supplied the soft drinks, Granny made punch, and Papa B brought the ice. Mommy was able to find plates that had just Mickey or just Minnie on them. But she couldn't find any plates with Donald Duck (Harper's favorite) on them. So she ended up having to order plates from the U.K. just so we could have plates with different characters! We even found serveware in the shape of Mickey Mouse!
34: Mommy made the centerpieces all by herself! She bought red water beads and soaked them in water for 3 days. She drained the water beads and poured them into (8) round, 10-inch flower vases. She purchased (8) 6-inch Styrofoam balls and (16) 3-inch Styrofoam balls to use as Mickey's head and ears. She attached the ears to the head with toothpicks. After assembling the heads, Mommy spray painted them black with foam friendly spray paint! Since Daisy Duck's favorite flower is a daisy, Mommy attached 4 yellow daisies on the centerpieces surrounding each Mickey's head. Grandma Susan made 8 yellow, polka dotted bows so the head's became 'Minnie' instead of 'Mickey.'
37: The facility only had 7 dining tables, so we placed the extra centerpiece on the table by the entrance. Mommy also ordered a Mickey Mouse thumb puncher, and spent days punching out hundreds of red, yellow, and black card stock Mickey heads. We used it as confetti and sprinkled it around the centerpieces, and on the cake, food, and desert tables. Every table had a white tablecloth so that the other colors would really stand out. For the 7 dining tables, we used rectangular tablecloths, but folded them in half to make them square. We placed extra chairs around the room to make sure everyone had a seat. | We draped red, yellow, black and white streamers across the room. We also taped stars on the walls and hung spiral decorations from the ceiling. We also found a 'Mickey Mouse Clubhouse' soundtrack CD and played music throughout the party. As soon as Harper heard the theme song, she spun in circles, looking around for a T.V. She didn't understand why she was hearing the song but not seeing the show!
39: We weren't able to rent a helium tank because there was currently a world wide helium shortage! Luckily, we were still able to buy miniature helium tanks from retail stores! We blew up red, yellow, black and white balloons and tied strings onto each of them. We let them float up to the ceiling, and put a few out by the road so that our friends would be able to find the party!
40: Daddy called Mommy around 1:00 to let her know that Harper had woken up from her nap. Mommy headed home to pick them up, load the presents, and get some last minute things! Harper was so excited when she walked in the room. We brought Disney World to Harper without having to leave North Carolina!
46: Harper hadn't started walking on her own yet, but would take steps if she was holding someones hand. She rarely stood up by herself either. After Papa B walked Harper over to the cake table, he let go of her hand. For a good 5 minutes, she stood there, looking around and checking things out. Everyone crowded around her, taking pictures and trying to coax her into taking her first step! We all thought for sure that she was going to take off walking!
68: Mommy and Daddy made sure they looked the part too in their Mickey attire!
73: Our friends Heather and Hudson came to Harper's party too! They're a little over a month apart in age!
81: Uh oh... It's CAKE SMASH time!!!
91: Harper is a prissy little thing who doesn't like to get her hands dirty. When we finished singing "Happy Birthday," she pinched off little pieces of the icing and felt of it. Like any curious baby, those fingers went straight to her mouth. When she got a taste of that icing, she went back for more. This time, she stuck her finger in the cake and tasted it again. She looked around at everyone, unsure, like she was thinking, "I might get in trouble for this if I keep going." To show her it was okay, Mommy walked over and placed both of Harper's hands onto the top of the cake. Harper looked at Mommy like, "Wow! I can't believe I can get away with doing this!"
94: "Here, have some!" Harper invited us to try a sample of her cake!
98: Harper loves her Aunt Jessica!
99: The fun really started when Harper began raking her cake into her lap!
101: And then we realized we forgot to put her birthday hat on!
107: Deena & Abel, Mommy & Harper, and Heather & Greyson
108: Most of the kids at Harper's party were babies, so we were limited to the games we could play. We were able to find a Mickey Mouse pull string piñata. All the babies took turns by pulling one string of the piñata at a time. We let Harper pull the very last string, which made all of the candy fall on the floor! It was the perfect game for a first birthday party!
112: Mommy got Harper a Mickey Mouse chair to sit in while she opened her presents!
115: Happy Birthday Harper!
128: There was also a bounce house with a slide for the kids to play in!
134: "You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here!" | Wow! Harper had an amazing first birthday party! Where on Earth are we going to put all these toys?! Time to clean up, pack up, and head home!
136: Harper - We hope you will look back on these memories and realize how much you are loved! This first year has really flown by! It saddens us to know that you're growing up, but every new stage is so much fun. We look forward to many fun adventures with you and we love you more than you'll ever know!
