 Laila Rose
On October 7th, 2009 our beautiful 7 pound 8 ounce baby girl was born.
I chose to have a natural vaginal delivery, at St. Michael's Hospital. However, at my last appointment before due date, the doctors determined that Laila was not in the head-down position and so they scheduled a Cesarean section birth. I was disappointed at first, but I knew that it was the best choice for Laila's and my well-being. It was tough just after the surgery because although I was awake for the entire thing, I was only able to see Laila for a few seconds before they took her away to get cleaned up. It was all worth it in the end when my husband and I had her snuggled in our arms.
It's been 3 months and Laila is too adorable! Over the past months she has been getting up every couple hours during the night and napping quite a bit during the day (when I try to get some rest too!). It must be a motherly hormone or something, but it never ceases to amaze me when Laila "searches" for me. She recognizes my face, my smell and it's the most touching thing in the world. She's holding her head up now, but not for too long at a time, but she hardly makes noises; I haven't heard much cooing or squealing so I hope that starts soon...or do I? (Haha). Something else that I have noticed too which has us quite excited are her attempts to roll over, but only making it half way to her side! That's quite impressive for my little cupcake!
 Bath Time!
I can't believe how quickly time flies! Laila is just over 6 months now and is more than a handful! I have noticed some minor incidents of separation anxiety, but not too much to worry about just yet. She's rolling over completely now and seems to like her new found position quite a bit as she stays on her stomach, head up and alert whenever she gets a chance. She's also sitting by herself but can't quite balance yet so she rocks backwards a lot which I must say is slightly amusing! I've started her on some solid foods as well, but she doesn't seem to be agreeing with all of it just yet so a doctor's appointment is scheduled for next week. And the best news that her papa and I have to report is her attempts at saying "mama" or at least that's what I like to think! Honestly, it's more of "mmmm" and gurgles! Cutie pie nonetheless :)
It seems as though it was just yesterday that I was so excited when Laila was sitting up on her own! She's just about 9 months and so much has happened; she's almost not the same baby anymore. She's taken to solid foods well now and enjoys smushed carrots and pears. Finally she is saying "mama" - for real this time, among a tune of other jabbering. She has started crawling everywhere her tiny legs could take her and reaches for everything now; the brighter the colors, the better! Yesterday she held on to the sofa, stood up and managed a couple steps along the sofa, holding on ever so carefully; then she quit, looking satisfied at her new trick, but also a little intimidated haha! She's also very into playing hide and go seek with her toys, now that she knows they haven't completed disappeared. At this age, she is a busy body, but she is such a joy to play with and watching her learn is absolutely rewarding!
Happy 1st Birthday my darling Laila! The past couple months have been a whirlwind of activity from the little one. She's saying "mama" and "dada" to each of us correctly which sure makes us feel special; we've also heard her say "hi" and "nah" a few times so her vocabulary is increasing! And she is cruising as fast as she could go, especially in the walker we bought her. Her favorite thing to do now is wave goodbye and stick her tongue at her daddy when she sees him doing it to her. Her first birthday party was yesterday and we had a huge fair with ponies, a bouncy castle, a huge princess cake and all our family and friends. We had hoped she would have taken her first independent steps by her 1st birthday, but patience is key!
Our little girl is growing up so quickly! She is 14 months now and walking! It's not completely balanced, with lots of trips and bounces but she's getting there. She doesn't seem to be responding to instructions well though; mostly she won't give kisses when asked! There's not much difference between most of her skill since her first birthday, but I think the biggest, most exciting thing is that she's walking! Oh and she's biting when you try to feed her with your fingers with those eight little teeth up front!
Laila is just about 16 months and she's becoming a little lady. She enjoys climbing on the sofas, and up one or two steps, and she has made a best friend with her stuffed monkey, Mr. Wiggles. She's not seen without him! I'm worried about her language development though, because we haven't heard new ones for a couple months and while she "baby talks," we were hoping that she would be saying more like "yea" and "no." She loves story time, turns the pages on her own, points to her nose and mouth when the characters in the book talk about them, and she likes to draw or at least scribble with every color!
At 18 months, Laila has thrown her first couple temper tantrums, which stemmed from not being able to play with things like the TV remote. She's catching up with her words now, saying more, like "hello" "no" "uh-oh" and using them together to make little phrases. She also likes pretend play, such as feeding Mr. Wiggles and she loves to dance once any sort of music is playing. Such a disco baby! She doesn't seem to be ready for the grown up toilet yet, but maybe within a couple months. It seems like such a long time since her first words and giggles.
 Little Daredevil!
20 months and Laila is cute as ever! Her attempts at using spoons during meal times is adorable and her love for fruit is growing by the day. I am not worried at all anymore about her language development as she is a little chatterbox these days. She likes to help with chores - "folding her clothes," giving Mr. Wiggles a bath and undressing herself for baths. She's making it up a couple steps as well, but I don' think she's confident enough to try more just yet. Also, I am starting to get more concerned about her potty training, but mayb next month? She's still a baby right?!
She's making it up all the stairs, and back down! Laila is 22 months and she is growing up beautifully. She likes playing sport type games, kicking around a ball, playing with blow up bowling pins although I'd much rather have her playing with all those Barbies. But stereotyping gender roles isn't good parenting , I know. Attempts at using the toilet still aren't as successful as I'd hoped, but she is making some progressing by creating alarm when she feels the urge, but always a little too late. She'll get the hang of it soon. On a positive note, she is dressing her self, picking out her own outfits and putting them on with just a little help. Sometimes those combinations could start a new fashion trend!
Happy 2nd Birthday Laila! Two years is unbelievable, but we are celebrating her birthday this coming weekend with a lavish beach bash! All of our family and friends will join us and there'll be lots of games and all the foods Laila loves. She is finally using the toilet on her own and properly now, thanks to a little coaching and she thinks she's a big girl now. She loves playing with her 4 year old cousin and can be heard singing tunes from her favorite cartoons. She's a curious little monkey these days with all sorts of questions as she discovers new things that she like and dislikes. She is growing up beautifully but she is still my baby girl.
 Happy 2nd Birthday!
