S: Our Adoption Story

FC: Not flesh of my flesh nor bone of my bone, | but still miraculously my own. | Never forget for a single minute, | that you grew not under my heart, but in it. | Our Adoption Story

1: About Our Family | Our family's like a patchwork quilt, With kindness gently sewn. Each piece is an original, With beauty of its own. With threads of warmth and happiness, It's tightly stitched together. To last in love throughout the years, Our family is forever.

2: How Our Journey Began | Our journey began about 10 years prior to this moment. After many years of dealing with infertility issues, we read an article in the paper about open adoption. We researched the process and prayed about it and finally made the life changing decision to begin the adoption process. After our second adoption meeting with the other couples in our group, (30 in all), we had already had 1 placement and 2 others in the works. I got so nervous, we began getting the nursery ready. That may have slowed the process. From that point, things slowed down (or at least it seemed that way for us). The hardest part was answering the questions during the wait. The most asked was "Where are y'all on the list?" For those that were not familiar with adoption, it was a lesson to them when we explained how our adoption process works and that there isn't a "list". The choice is that of the birth family making the correct fit between them and their adoptive family. The birth parents read over many profiles and look at their prospective adoptive families profile and photo albums and then have to decide who they want to parent their child. We were so glad our birth mom chose US! We are so blessed!!!!

3: How We Found Out | We had been waiting for this day for 2 1/2 years. It was just after Hurricane Katrina devastated our area. I had traveled to Connecticut for training as my Customer Service position was being relocated back to the Corporate Office. While I was there, I received a call from our friend, Ms. Janice, who was a nurse at a local hospital. She knew we were going to adopt a child, and wanted to know if we were still waiting for a placement. I told her we were. She went on to tell me that a young mother had just given birth and wanted to place the child with an adoptive family as she could not give this child the life that she knew he deserved. I could not believe we were finally getting the call we had waited so long to receive. I explained to Janice, that we would be honored if she selected us, but she would have to contact our agency, Catholic Charities, and begin the process. It was extremely difficult to reach Charlie as he was busy with our insurance adjuster for damage we sustained during the storm. Danna Cousins with CC did not know that I was out of town, and I did not have any numbers for the agency with me. Finally, Charlie answered the phone and was able to get in touch with Danna and let her know what was going on. The social worker had also contacted the agency and by the time Charlie was talking to Danna, Cindy Falgoust was already on her way to the hospital with our profile. By 5pm that evening, we had received the call that we had been chosen to be the parents of a beautiful Baby Boy!
