How We Found Out | Friday, March 5, 2010 After six months of trying, we finally had a positive pregnancy test! I was in shock when it said "positive," because I really didn't think I was pregnant. I did three more tests within the next week just to be sure that I really was pregnant! | Celebrating our 25th birthdays, which are April 11 and April 13!
How We Told Our Family & Friends | A couple weeks after finding out that I was pregnant, we drove up to Vermont so we could tell our families that I was expecting. We went to Island Pond and told my parent's house first. My mom opened her gift bag and saw the picture frame and bib and thought it was a joke. When we finally convinced her that it was for real, she nearly passed out. Jim's grandparents and parents opened the bag together and Jim's mom started crying and his grandmother thought we were talking about Jessi's baby! After my first OBGYN appt., we told everyone else.
First ultrasound was done at my first appt. to determine how far along I was; the second one was done to check for a heartbeat, as they couldn't hear it with a doppler because of my tipped uterus. | 4/5/10: 8 weeks gestation | 5/3/10: 12 weeks gestation | Our little blessing from God!

Jim nearly missed the ultrasound due to work, but he arrived just in the nick of time! | It's Emma Grace!

 10/26/10: 37 weeks, 1 day | 1`1/8/10: 39 weeks | Almost to my due date!
Past my due date.... | On Friday, Nov. 12th, I had lots of contractions and went in to the hospital where I was told that I was 2cm dilated but that my contractions were more like an irritated uterus than true labor. So I was sent home but I was told that I would most likely be back over the weekend in labor. But no, Miss Emma did not want to come out! I went in for my regular OBGYN visit on Monday (my due date) and Dr. Wilson said that he wanted to induce me the following Tuesday if I didn't go into labor on my own by then. I attended my PALS class for work on the 15th and 16th and then went out on maternity leave officially. Then the big waiting game began. I was getting a little impatient! Finally, the next Friday, my water broke! | 11/20/10: Getting ready to push! | 40 weeks, 1 day | 40 weeks, 3 days
My Labor | I spent the day Friday by doing things around the house and going for a walk, shopping, and meeting Jim for lunch. I was tired from being up all night having contractions the night before but I didn't want to rest. That night we re-financed on our house and I was very uncomfortable and kept having random hard contractions and I had been having bloody show for about 5 days. Finally, around 8:45pm, my water broke. I knew it was time to get to the hospital! My contractions were 2-3 minutes apart the entire 20 hours of labor and sometimes even just 30 seconds apart. We got to the hospital around 10pm and my parents arrived soon after. The nurses had me up and walking because I was 75% effaced but still only 2cm dilated. Mom helped me so much with my breathing to get through the contractions. And Jim was there helping me and supporting me the entire time was well. He was amazing and he even sent me two dozen roses while I was in labor! I took a shot of morphine and phenergan to help me get some rest during the long night. That helped but I still woke up for every contraction. In the morning, labor intensified more and I tried the shower for awhile, but was in too much pain to stand up well. Then I spent about 30 minutes in the labor pool, which felt good for a little while. The pain was so intense and I was so exhausted that I started falling asleep between contractions. Soon after I asked for some Staidol to help take the edge off the pain. It helped a little bit but pretty much just made me loopy and confused. After a second dose of Staidol and being in tears from the pain, I finally asked for an epidural. I was at 8cm and still had 2 hours of labor left before pushing. What a wonderful relief I got from that so I could sleep for a few hours. Then I woke up, got 45 min. of Pitocen and then pushed for about 1 hour and 45 minutes before Emma finally came out! | Emma's first photo on Facebook!
