Next we visited Dover's Monster Mile in 2005, hot without a cloud in sight...the poor lady from our hotel whom didn't bother with sunblock all day!! Kansas Speedway in 2006, did not plan on 90 degrees for Oct...had to purchase shorts because sweatshirts and jeans were all we had.... no complaints!

56: Chattanooga Tennessee | smokey mountains | Ruby Falls begins with the original Lookout Mountain Cave whose natural entrance is located at the foot of Lookout Mountain on the banks of the Tennessee River.

57: It was a long walk up to the top of Ruby Falls but the view was spectacular! | Traveling from Minnesota with an overnight stay in our old home Des Moines and picked up a couple more to our final destination of Daytona was a van filled with energetic chatter. Sight-seeing along the way, picnicking and stretching our legs, countless rest stops, and only got lost once. We did spend the night in Chattanooga at the deluxe Super 8, crammed all of us in one room (last room); we called ahead leaving Nashville...thank goodness! Kiana, Pacela, Dan, Cassandra, Justin, and mom stopped and spent the night at the girls' aunt and uncle's in Orlando......mom got attacked by red ants and became very sick....Justin's skin was just irritated. After the skydeck we headed down town and enjoyed Uno's deep dish pizza, the original Chicago deep dish; everyone wrote their name on the wall and stuffed themselves with only a couple of pieces. 70: Washington D.C. | Six days were spent exploring the nation's capitol; any sight you can research for this great city we visited. Our hotel was located in Maryland and we drove into the city every morning, since we started so early every day we were too tired to enjoy the lighted monuments. Sunny and warm, 90 to 105 degrees daily; utilizing the bottles of water we carried was refreshing. At one point we were walking the streets from the White House to the Capital (not remotely close to one another) we filled our bottles from fountains on the sidewalk; approached by a local whom stated that no one uses them the water is terrible, the only response given was "its 105 and the concrete is miserable, no shops nearby, and the bottled water you drink comes from this water supply".... it was cold and fine. Eating at the food trucks was fun, the only time we get to eat from them is during fair time...so this was a daily occurrence. There were hidden sculptures throughout the city, sitting down on a park bench to catch your breath would be the best time to catch one as you would not look for if walking.

74: Stars and stripes Forever

75: Below at the WW II Memorial, there were a number of high school bands from all over the nation playing, we listened and rested for a short time. Just opposite this this site is the Washington Monument...unfortunately it was under construction. A lot of hiking the trails, tried some fly fishing, stopping and enjoying the show that Old Faithful had to show; but nature at its best was at our fingertips. | July 11-13 | The Bison really do have the run of the Parks, we saw many beware of bear signs but only ever saw the best traffic jam mammal and often. It was a little surprising to come to the first campground of our trip and find the buffalo rummaging around in someone else's because they can do what they want. This time around they just knocked down a tent, but thankfully didn't ruin it.

124: Saturday July 13 entered into the beautiful mountain range of the Tetons on our way to Jackson Hole, WY. Fireside Lodge, which is an RV campground, stayed in the van overnight; how cozy the four of us. Whitewater rafting on the Snake River aboard our rubber raft, starting out our adventure at 8 am lasting 5 1/2 hours; great breakfast, scenic byway, and a few chilly dips in the 60 degree water with a balmy topside temp to match. Our rafting buddies were from Alabama as was our guide Sprat, Barker-Ewing did a great job with the trip! Great back flip of the front of the boat! Crossed the Continental Divide prior to reaching the Tetons, meaning from here on out all rivers run West. Spent one night in Tetons before heading out to Oregon.
