FC: “Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated.” ~ Arnold Palmer | Argentina's restrictions on imports and its effect on the European Union

Argentina’s import restrictions include a procedure to obtain an import licence.

Another requirement is that companies have to balance imports with exports.

The European Union believes these measures cause real damage to EU companies.

 The new measures include:

 - Imports need to have pre-registration and pre-approval, called the "Declaración Jurada Anticipada de Importación". Since February 2012, this pre-approval requirement is applied to all imports.

 - Hundreds of goods also need an import licence. Because of these procedures, imports are delayed or refused. In early 2011, more than 600 product types were affected by this licence measure, such as electrical machinery, auto parts and chemical products.

 - Argentina requires importers to balance imports with exports, or to increase the local content of the products they manufacture in Argentina. These measures delay or block goods at the border and affect industry in the EU and worldwide.

**EU imports from Argentina primarily consist of agricultural products (food and live animals, 53%), chemicals (16%) and raw materials (14%), while the EU mainly exports manufactured goods such as machinery and transport equipment, such as cars and car parts (50%) and chemicals (20%) to Argentina.

Argentina's restrictive measures are extending to more and more sectors.
