Cancer, mostly Breast Cancer, has negatively affected my families health all throughout our history. Though it has taken many of my family members lives, this Breast Cancer ribbon represents our will to fight and never give up. By some of my family members suffering from Cancer, it has given all relatives a strength to take on any battle, emotional or physical, and never put up without a fight. We are a family of fighters and survivors with a strong foundation of support. | This trail represents my journey with my intermediate family ever since my parents' divorce. The announcement of my parents' divorce really hit hard for my siblings and I, and at that moment my family had been torn apart and hit rock bottom. Now for the past eight years, relationships within my family have had both ups and downs. For a small time span things would be good between everyone, represented by the straight path of the trail, but just as a winding trail is shaped, soon the straight path would hit a curve, representing an obstacle that my family and I had to overcome. Though later things would calm down and go back to normal, our journey was, and still is, a never ending cycle of good and bad times, just as this trail is never ending with straight and curved pathways.
A strong tradition held in my family is heading up north to our camper for the weekend, every weekend of each summer. Ever since I was young, a great amount of my summer has been spent up north, swimming, boating, tubing, and fourwheeling. One of my families favorite ways to spend time together is hitting the fourwheeling trails for hours upon hours throughout one day of the weekend. We all loved, and still do to this day, soaking up the sun while driving fast without a care in the world. | Country music holds so much value in my family. It resembles my childhood and the times I have spent with my family, as some songs bring back so many great memories because country music was all we used to listen to wherever we went. Country music also resembles special family time and brings my family and I together as it is one of the greatest shared interests we hold with one another. Once I go away for college in the fall, when I begin to miss my family I can just listen to country music, as it will always remind me of them and the great times we have had together.
My family and I have experienced great changes in the past year, as we have accepted God into our lives. We value acting with love and walking faithfully on our paths in life; striving to be obedient to God daily. Church time is not a chore in my home, going to church excites us as we get to gather with others in a sense of fellowship to learn about and listen to the word of God being preached to us. Being and acting like a faithful Christian is personally my most important value of all. | The friendships I have gained are the greatest blessings in my life, and that is why I greatly value spending time with my friends. Being around my friends is so uplifting as they continuously encourage, inspire, and support me. My favorite thing to do is laugh and act crazy, and by being around my friends I am able to do just that because they accept and love me for who I am. Being in such a positive atmosphere I am able to forget about the bad and live in the moment to remember all the good times we have together. The greatest memories I have ever had, are times spent with my friends.
I couldn't agree more with Buddy from the movie ELF when he states, "I love smiling! Smiling's my favorite." I value smiling and laughing the most because they have helped me get through my darkest days with a positive attitude. Not only do I love smiling and laughing myself, but making others smile and laugh as well. I believe that peoples spirits can be lifted simply through a laugh or smile so I tell stories and jokes to try and brighten peoples moods so they may enjoy every moment in their life, no matter the circumstances. I value being a person in which others enjoy being around, where there is never a dull moment. | Though most teenagers find high school to be a "waste of their time," I am very dedicated to my school work. To many students I am known as a "try hard," but I find it so important to try my best in school no matter what, as it resembles who you are as person outside of school. Through my hard work, I have gained a great sense of responsibility and drive with all that I do. Striving to get A's in all of my classes as challenged me in a positive way, motivating myself to work as hard as I can to reach my goals. I believe that in order to reach one's goals in life, you must put forth all of your effort and never give up.
In a materialistic sense, my Iphone is one of the most valuable items that I own. Every moment I want to cherish, I capture with my camera in my phone. Some of my greatest memories are held in my camera roll. My phone also keeps my loved ones and I close as we are able to stay connected through texting and social media if we are for some reason, unable to be together. Many times, I gain a great amount of support from my friends when going through a hard time just by texting each other back and forth. Now overall, Iphones are said to be one of the greatest phones to have, and I could not agree more, but they are also expensive phones to obtain. In that sense, my Iphone reminds me how hard i work in order to be able to pay for something that means so much to me. It reminds me that hard work really does pay off. | My Bible is the book that I cherish most and one that is closest to my heart. So many verses in that book help remind me of my purpose in life, how much I am loved, and it gives me a sense of hope when I feel hopeless. What I find so beautiful about the Bible, is how every question I have about life can be answered by the words written inside. Every time I read, there is something new I learn that continues to encourage and inspire me on my journey of life.
Though I do enjoy being outside and up north with my family, my favorite way to spend time alone is by watching movies. I love getting lost in the story lines of all sorts of movies, as if I am experiencing each situation myself. They help me get away from reality for a while and allow me to view life from different perspectives. It makes me so happy to put on comfy clothes, lay on the couch, an watch movies for hours. | Some say diamonds are a girls best friend, but in my case, clothes are my best friend. I love being able to express my personality through the clothes I wear. I tend to spend more time than an average person does when picking out my clothes because I adjust my outfits to match how I am feeling. You know when I am tired or feeling down because I then wear sweats, but when I am dressed up, I know it will be a good day and others can tell also by seeing a positive attitude within me.
Through my journey with God, I have discovered my post graduation plans for the fall of 2013. I have decided to attend Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee. Lee University represents myself as a person for two reasons. College will be the place where I live my dreams and study in order to pursue a career I desire to obtain in my future as an event planner and organizer. Also, the move to Tennessee represents the changes in my personality. I have never been one to be adventurous, but I am now stepping out of my comfort zone and striving for a change in my life as I will be 15 hours away from home for a long period of time. | If I were to be asked, "What is your favorite food, without a doubt it would be Ice Cream. I am convinced that I was born with a sweet tooth for ice cream. Not only do I love it, but also my mother and father share the same interest as me. Ever since I was young, we've enjoyed eating a bowl of ice cream together whether it be at home or in an ice cream shop. If I were to be asked what my favorite ice cream flavor is, I would have to say it is a tie between Cake Batter and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Yum!
I have never loved a group of girls as much as I love my best friends Camille, Alyssa, Bobbie Jo, and Alicia. These four girls have helped me find myself by encouraging and supporting me through all of the obstacles I have had to overcome in the past year. I have a special relationship with each one of them individually, but when we are all together we have the best times. We love to act crazy and make each other laugh, and we accept each other for who we truly are. I am beyond blessed and thankful for these ladies coming into my life. These are the friendships that will just only last through high school, but for a lifetime. | Ethos is the student ministry held at Pathways Church every Wednesday night; this is the place where I first found hope. I can do nothing but thank Ethos ministry and my Ethos family for bringing light into my life when I was in darkness, and finally bringing a sense of joy into my heart. When I go to Ethos I feel like I am completely myself, and that is the best feeling in the entire world. I first found who I truly was at Ethos one year ago, and now there is no where I'd rather be on a Wednesday night, than spend it at Ethos at Pathways Church!
