BC: The End

FC: by Mrs. Lossing and Mrs. O | Don't Let the Pigeon in the Library!

 Pigeon just loved to read.

Pigeon had library books to return, but has been known to do things wrong. With the help of Mrs. Lossing, the librarian, and Mrs. O, the library aide, he is now an expert. Here is what he learned.!

Pigeon noticed the new self check-in station. He loved that he got to do the scanning. Mrs. Lossing told him he didn't even have to touch the scanner to do it.

Pigeon flipped the book over and placed the barcode under the scanner's red light. ZAP.

Pigeon read on the screen that the book was checked in perfectly. He knew it was OK to find some new favorites to read.

He noticed the cool red cart behind Mrs. O's desk. It had labels with numbers on them. Without looking at the spine label on the side of his book, Pigeon placed it in any ole bin. He didn't realize there was an order to this.

Mrs. O showed him how the bins were grouped by hundreds and he saw how easy the system was. He just had to match the numbers.

He saw he needed to get his fiction books onto the tall, tan cart. It didn't matter which shelf, since all these chapter books were going to the same area.

Mrs. O told him if a book needed to be fixed, that Pigeon should put it on the hospital cart. | All the Everybody books needed to go on the red cart with the big E on it.

"This is fun," said Pigeon. | "I wonder what else there is to read at McNeil?"

Pigeon was feeling confident, so he reached for a shelf marker and asked Mrs. O to see what books were available. Mrs. Lossing showed him how to find stories that were "just right" for him using the Five Finger Rule. It worked.

Pigeon knew the picture books were probably best for him. These books have something for everybody.

Mrs. Lossing told him when he is in 3rd, 4th or 5th Grade he will get to read the wonderful Bluebonnet books.

Before he knew it, Pigeon became an expert on finding books. He knew the computers were a big help. He showed his friend Knuffle Bunny a few tips on using Destiny Quest.

They found all kinds of exciting stories this way!

Pigeon knew he would never run out of things to read at McNeil Elementary.

Mrs. Lossing and Mrs. O were so proud of Pigeon. They can't wait for him to visit again once he is done with his new books. Pigeon is always welcome at the McNeil Library.
