Carolyn Blackmore was born on January 1, 1968, into a polygamist cult called the Fundamentalist church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, otherwise known as the FLDS, in Hildale, Utah. At 5 years old, her family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, and them moved to Colorado City (a small town on the borderline of Utah and Arizona) a year later. Polygamy is a religion where young teenage girls are assigned to marry older men (usually around age 18).

At age 18, Carolyn married Merril Jessop, the man in the middle. Carolyn is seen standing up in the far left corner. The rest of the women were Carolyn's sister wives Faunita, Ruth, Barbara, Tammy, and Cathleen. Barbara is the main wife who basically runs the house. Ruth is the half-mental one. Merril no longer pays any attention to Faunita. Tammy always sucks up to Barbara and Merril. And Cathleen is the only wife that is a friend of Carolyn's.

In 15 years of marriage, Carolyn Jessop had eight children and almost died during several pregnancies. When giving birth to her 8th son Bryson, she lost a dangerously high amount of blood due to a severely torn placenta. The doctors had to perform an emergency hysterectomy in order to save her life. And guess what? Typical Merril couldn't have cared less.

In the late years of her marriage to Merril, Carolyn grew rebellious to her family's abuse towards her and her children. She escaped from Colorado City and began living in Salt Lake City, Utah. Of course, Merril hunted her down and began contacting her children. Carolyn then filed a lawsuit against him for his abuse towards her and the children. He was granted visiting rights but could not have any contact with the children without Carolyn's permission. When the children went to visit merril in Colorado City, he didn't feed them at all and made them pray, asking God to kill Carolyn. And that was the last straw for her. She filed a restraining order for her and the children.

Carolyn is now working as a full-time teacher. One day at college, she met a man named Brian (standing beside her in the picture) and it was love at first sight. They are now married with her eight children and his two kids. Carolyn is now living a happy life with her family, all except one. Her oldest daughter Betty, returned to the FLDS as soon as she turned 18. Betty was always rebellious to her new life outside of the FLDS and always stayed in contact with her father. "Betty is always my child and whenever she decides to return, I will welcome her with open arms," says Carolyn. Carolyn's story teaches a valuable lesson. Happily Ever Afters do exist, but sometimes you have to make it happen yourself.
