FC: FLAT STANLEY | Goes West of the Mississippi
This book is dedicated to my very best friend ANDREW SERAFIN who created me and had the courage to send me on my excellent adventure! And to celebrate his First Holy Communion May 15, 2011
My first day in Oklahoma! I visited the plant where my lovely hostess works. I took a wild ride on a Harley and had a pop at the "POP STOP".
Get your kicks on famous, historic ROUTE 66! Arcadia's Round Barn was built in 1898 - they said it couldn't be done!! The lower level was used to shelter cattle, mules and hay. The upper level or loft was used for dances and community gatherings. Flat thought this might have been kinda stinky ...
ANTIQUE TOY MUSEUM Mr. Stanley really had a good time here! | Flat drove a car, was the switcher for a train, went aboard an ocean liner ... He also drove a hook and ladder, a locomotive, an airplane, and a streetcar ... and a Ferris Wheel!!
Ask your Grannie who we are ...
Flat really could not believe his eyes when he saw the CADILLAC RANCH in Amarillo, TEXAS!! WOW!! Some artist partially buried 10 cars in a field in 1974. Now people come and decorate them. The paint is about 2 inches thick. Off to the BIG TEXAN STEAK RANCH ... Flat could not finish his 72 ounce steak!!
We went to MEXICO!!! Flat had his own passport and went through Customs. He and met lots of kids and adults who recognized him!! What a kick ... "Hey, there's Flat Stanley. Where are you from?" | There is an Iguana on this wall!
This is Valladolid, a very old Spanish Colonial town. There is a big cathedral and we had lunch in the park. Flat met the balloon lady and had ice cream.
CHICHEN ITSA | El Mercado - the market and the Group of 1000 Columns | The Great Ball Court is as big as three football fields. | The Mayan Pyramid is over 1500 years old! | Flat got a birds eye view from atop a Mayan warrior.
Flat really liked the sombrero on this bandito so we had to buy him one. Do you think it makes him look distinguished or just authentic?
Talihina, OK home of the Choctaw Nation - one of the seven civilized tribes. | The National Infant of Prague National Shrine is in ... where else??? Prague, Oklahoma!
The Oklahoma City Memorial was very sad. It was built to commemorate the bombing of the Murrah Federal Buildimg in 1995. There is an empty chair for each of the 168 who died. The picture below is of the fence where people left tributes.
OKC ZOO with the girls! Flat was not tall enough to ride the carousel ... too bad.
When in OKLAHOMA, you might have to be certified to carry a concealed weapon. Flat attended the 8 hour class and we are proud to say - HE PASSED!
