He was feeling kind of melancholy and lonely and said to himself, "I wish I had a best friend." None of the other animals wanted to be his friend because he was too small. | It was a freezing day in the cold mountains of the Arctic. Polar bears were wrestling in a snowy bank. A baby Emperor Penguin named Bob was sliding down a hill on his belly.

Emily was a kind girl. She spent her days ice fishing, making snow angels, snowforts, snowmen and other things in the snow. On that day she was baking soft chocolate chip cookies in her cabin with her younger brother Blake. While the cookies were cooling, Emily decided to grab her tobogan and go sledding. She dragged it to the top of the hill and slid down. Half way down she fell off her tobogan.

She decided to rest for a minute before tiredly trudging back up to the top of the hill. Once again, Emily sat down on her tobogan determined to make it all the way down this time. She pushed off with her hands. The tobogan started picking up speed. Then SWOOSH, down the hill she zoomed. Emily wanted to stop so she put her feet down like brakes. Snow splattered all over her face. She couldn't see where she was going.

Emily cleared her eyes with her mittens. Just in time to see Bob flipping onto her sled. | Bob had gotten bored of sliding down the hill alone and he was waddling home.

Emily was frozen with fear and surprise. She screamed, "AAAH!" | Bob on the other hand was happy and excited because he thought Emily would be his friend. He was wild with excitement and yelled, "YEAHHH!"

Snow sprayed all over Bob's face, covering it. He turned to look at Emily. He giggled. Emily was so terrified she bounded off the sled and tumbled to the bottom of the hill.

Bob and the tobogan hit a bump and flew through the air and SKIDOOSH, landed next to Emily.

Emily got up and took off running home. But she forgot her tobogan. Bob grouched his face and sat on the tobogan, feeling heartbroken, gloomy, and sorrowful. His only 'maybe friend' ran home. | Bob decided to return Emily's tobogan. He followed her tracks to her house. Bob flapped the door with his flipper.

Emily's brother Blake opened the door and saw Bob. He noticed he had Emily's tobogan. He invited him inside.

Emily peered around the corner to see what was going on. Bob noticed her and his flippers started flapping like a bird because he was so glad to see her. | His flipper slapped the play button on the cd player. The music turned on and he and Blake started dancing.

Emily realized that Bob wasn't scarey after all. She crept down the steep steps to take a closer look. Emily realized Bob was just a baby.

She reached her trembling hand toward Bob and tapped him on the shoulder. | Bob turned around, grabbed a hold of Emily's hands and they started dancing.

This was the beginning of an 'actual friendship'.
