3: Symbolism: Rain Color Grass

4: RAIN- The excessive rain shows the cycle of nature. It represents birth and death.

5: Also, the flood can be compared to Noah's Ark. In Galati's play, the second act ends with a massive flood where the Joad's car, their ark, begins to sink. The same sense of an uncontrolled disaster, such as the weather, in the story of Noah and the flood is paralleled in the ending of this play.

6: COLOR- Represents the dismal reality of the dust bowl. It shows the people in a period of darkness.

7: GRASS- Represents a new beginning after a long period of depression.

8: Connections to Other Chapters: Chapter 1- The women watch the men. Also, the effect of weather on people.

9: Chapter 3- The men in a circle show indomitability of the life force represented by the turtle. Chapter 30- Rose of Sharon gives the boy her milk which represents another form of life source.
