FC: The Great Depression Project

1: What caused the Great Depression? One of the major caused was the stock market crash of 1929. The stock market crashed occurred om Black Tuesday, October 29, 1929. Two month after the original crash in October, stockholders had lost more than 40 billion dollars. Even though the stock market began to get some of its losses back by the end of 1930, it just was not enough and America truly entered what was called the Great Depression. The Great Depression was one of the worst economic tragedies in American History.

2: How long did the Great Depression last? The Great Depression started in 1929 and lasted all the way till 1938. Unemployment was at it high from 1929 to 1938. By 1933, 26.6% of people who made a living was unemployed. Workers were either fired or laid off. The domestic market was affected and many lost their land because they could not keep up on the payments and most factory workers had to work twice has much to earn the same amount of money before the Depression.

3: What was life like during the Great Depression? Life during the Great Depression was terrible. The conditions were horrible and it was difficult to find a job during the Great Depression. Most families were poor and could not get the food they needed. Also, jobs were had to get and keep, with no work and support, families were lucky to get by. With people not being able to support their families or get jobs, people protested.

4: Who was affected during the depression? Almost everyone was affected during the depression. Banks where effected the most because everyone was trying to take loans when they got laid off and when they took the loans, people never paid them back and that forced them to close. Other people that were affected were families and workers because companies had to lay off workers and that meant that they could not support their families.

6: How did the Great Depression end? During the Great Depression, Congress passed the New Deal Act. The New Deal act was to response to the Great Depression and to focus on the major issues. The many issues were unemployment, low wages, recovery the economy and reform the financial system. Te New Deal was able to regulate businesses and wages. The New DealAct help ended the Great Depression. Thus, War War II was also a cause for ending the Great Depression.
