1: HEREMAKONO PRIMARY SCHOOL, SIERRA LEONE | 2012
2: The natural BEAUTY of southern Thailand was stunning. | D ThT | Through the Clarkes' generosity, the lives of hundreds of children have been enriched through the gift of education. The Heremakono Primary School in Sierra Leone proudly stands as a beacon of hope for the future. Your gift helped fund programs in the school, including health care, school gardens, teacher training, school supplies and uniforms, water and sanitation infrastructure, and daily meals. A whole new generation of future leaders are growing as a result of this new school. On behalf of these eager students, thank you!
4: Heremakono is located in the northeast corner of Sierra Leone, about 9km north of the town of Kabala. This mainly Muslim village was established about 180 years ago.
5: Heremakono was established by people of the Mandingo ethnic group. The community is situated in Sierra Leone's northeastern Koinadugu District. It is within a distance of nine kilometers from Kabala, the district headquarter. Heremakono is principally populated by Madingo and Limba people. The community is predominantly Muslim and very tolerant of different religions. Around 2,500 people live in Heremakono. The women outnumber the men in this community, and their livelihood is mostly subsistence farming. Some community members raise small ruminants like sheep and goats, and still others fetch fire wood from nearby forests to sell at the market.
