3: Hitler volunteered to become a soldier in the German army in World War 1. Colonel Hitler was a dispatch runner, taking notes from behind the lines to the front. When not in battle he painted watercolors. He was known as a quiet loner who was very lucky (at one point moving right before a shell hit the spot he was standing). His luck ran out when his leg was hit with a shell fragment.
