FC: Immigration | in America | Tina Robbins

Immigrants come from all over the world, but Chinese people were the first Asian immigrants to come to the U.S.

on page one the Chinese men are helping to build the transcontinental railroad

During the mid 1800's immigration grew quickly. due to the California gold rush, and a significant amount of immigrants were Chinese. Because there were so many Chinese immigrants, they had more strict immigration laws. The laws were that the immigrant had to either have a parent who was born in the U.S. or, they themselves had to be skilled workers. These new regulations caused a massive decrease in the Chinese population of America, in 1920 there were roughly 62,000 Chinese people in America.

 The English

in 1620 pilgrims from england began immigrating to the United States because they didn't want to deal with the monarchy and the unreasonable restrictions in their country. | "The English were the ones who establish the colonies of which the united states of America sprung from."
