 Christmas 2008

Broken Arm | Primary 2009 | Jackson's First Day in CTR 6 Teacher: Sister Connie Smith | Jackson broke his arm on December 6, 2008 while in St. George visiting Grandma Carole and Grandpa Tim. Pretending to be a Power Ranger, he tried to jump over the back of a chair. His arm broke in three places, right at the elbow. He had to wear a cast for a while. It was kind of cool at first, but it turned out to be a pretty big pain because he couldn't go outside and play during recess. He had to stay inside and play all by himself. He also couldn't go sledding all winter long! He was so happy to get his cast off!

 Getting Dirty

Throughout this school year, Jackson really enjoyed learning how to play basketball. He played at Grandma Jackie's, Grandma Carole's, and Grandma Vada's. He taught himself how to dribble and shoot.

Kindergarten Program Jack had so much fun being in his first school program. He learned lots of new songs (his favorite was "You're a Grand Old Flag"), and he even had a speaking part. He did a great job in his program. Mom, Dad, and Grandma Jackie were able to come watch.

Another Broken Arm | The very first day of summer vacation, Jackson broke his arm AGAIN! This time, he jumped out of a swing while it was still moving. He got another cast, and it turned out to be much worse having a broken arm in the summertime than it was in the wintertime. Jack couldn't swim, play in the sprinklers, play t-ball, or do any other fun summertime activities for the entire month of June (and mom was paranoid and overprotective for the rest of the summer).

A Day at the Dinosaur Park

 Best Friends

Just before Kindergarten, Jackson played T-ball for the first time. He had fun learning about the sport. In the fall, Jack played soccer. He learned to be more aggressive, and he even scored a goal (Dad gave him $5 and he got to pick out a toy at King's). At the end of his Kindergarten year, Jack played t-ball again. Mom was his coach this year. He played really well and got a few good hits before his broken arm ended the season for him after only three games.

 Logan Temple | Bear Lake

Park City Vacation | Bear World & Island Park

We had a lot of fun the summer before first grade. We had a family vacation in Park City. We went to Cherry Hill, Hogle Zoo, rode the Alpine Slide, and swam every day! Jack even started to learn how to swim by himself! We also went to Island Park with the Lindhardts. We went to Bear World, where a bear tried to climb in the back of our truck to get to a cooler full of food. We also fished at Henry's Lake and swam at the condo. Jack had a fun sixth birthday. He was excited to go around the neighborhood and invite all of his friends over for cake and ice cream. Jack chose a basketball cake, and he was really excited to get a transformer and Mario Kart for the wii. Jack lost his first tooth on August 21, 2009. He pulled it out himself, and was excited to get $1 from the tooth fairy! | Summer Adventures

First Day of First Grade Jackson had a difficult time adjusting to the LONG school day at first. He also didn't like having so much more homework in first grade than he had in kindergarten, but he quickly began to appreciate 3 recesses and eating lunch at school! | USU Aggies! This fall, our family got season tickets to the Aggie football games. Jackson enjoyed going to the games and learning more about football. He began to like football so much, he started bringing a football to school and organized a game with his friends during recess every day. His favorite parts of the Aggie games were the treats and looking for Big Blue. He even got to shake Big Blue's hand at one of the games. Jackson went to all of the games with dad--even when mom couldn't go after having baby Jane. His favorite memory of the Aggie games was when he got to pick a place to go out to eat before a game with dad. He chose Texas Roadhouse because he loved being able to throw the peanut shells on the floor!

Jackson played soccer again this fall. He improved a lot over the previous year, and he was one of the best players on the team. The position he played most often was forward. Mom and dad enjoyed going to all of the games, and dad always encouraged Jack and gave him extra pointers. Jack enjoyed having Andie on his team this year, but he didn't enjoy the PINK uniforms!

We went to Salt Lake in October for Sandy's wedding. Jackson enjoyed spending time with family, and he loved swimming in the hotel pool with dad!

 Fall

 Halloween

New Sister | When Jack first heard that our new baby was a girl, his first reaction was, "Aww man!" He was really hoping for a boy, but he quickly got over not having a brother. He loved holding Jane and having a new baby in the house.

We moved into our new house 4 days before Christmas. It was crazy, but Jackson insisted that we put up a Christmas tree because he was the only one in his class who didn't have a tree. Even though things were hectic, we still had a great Christmas. Jack's favorite present was his new football. After waking up early to open presents, we had a wonderful turkey dinner with our friends, the Lindhardts, and Grandma Vada.

When dad pulled the kids on the sled behind the four wheeler, it was pretty much the best day of Jackson's life. He had so much fun riding over the jumps that dad set up! He also loved riding on the back of the four wheeler through all of the show in Grandma Vada's front yard.

As first grade started winding down, Jackson enjoyed riding his bike in our new neighborhood, flying his kite, and READING! He worked daily on reaching his AR goal of 100 points! When he finally reached the goal in April, he got to walk the halls with Pella the Panther in a parade of students congratulating him on his achievement. Mom and Dad took time off from work to cheer him on!

 St. George

In June, our family went on a trip to Seaside, Oregon with Grandma Jackie and Grandpa Randy, Dustin's family, and Landon's Family. Jackson had many new experiences and had a great time. It was his first time to go to the ocean and play on the beach. We also saw a few lighthouses, went to an aquarium, ate lots of seafood (Jack's favorite), and had a good time playing with cousins. Left: Jack, Jane and Andie at a lighthouse in Washington. We drove over a huge bridge in Astoria to get to Washington. Top: Jack's new dance move. Middle: While shopping, Jack sprouted some hefty muscles and learned how to drive this awesome car. Bottom: Landon, Jack, and Brynn play games on dad's new ipad.

Grandma Jackie's 50th Birthday | Tillamook Cheese Factory

 Oregon Trip

While waiting in a restaurant to eat clam chowder and a bucket of clams, Jackson shows off the sand dollars he and Andie found on a morning walk on the beach with Grandma Jackie. (And that front tooth is just barely hanging on!) | Right: Dad and the kids take a break from the hike down to a lighthouse. | The Shoshone Falls in Twin Falls, Idaho.

Jackson's favorite part of our Oregon trip was going crab fishing, which he did twice. The first day, Jack went with dad out on the boat, and they caught two crabs that they got to cook and eat. A couple of days later, the whole family went and fished from the dock, where we caught lots of ALMOST keepers, but none that were large enough to eat.

 Toothless

A weird storm blew over two of Grandma Vada's huge trees in her backyard. | During Rodeo Week, Jackson enjoyed the activities at the hospital. His favorite part was riding the horse.

For Jack's 7th birthday (and Andie's 6th), we had a huge combined party with cake, ice cream, and a water fight. Jack invited all of his friends from our old neighborhood and our new neighborhood. With 22 wet kids, it was crazy!

Jackson improved a lot in soccer this year. He got really good at playing defense. Andie was supposed to be on his team, but she couldn't play because she broke her collarbone.

Jackson was so excited for Christmas this year. He and Andie helped mom decorate the house by setting up the tree, the nativity set, and all the other decorations. We also made homemade sugar cookies, and Jackson carefully cut and decorated each one. | Halloween | Getting Ready for Christmas: | Jane's First Birthday

For Christmas this year, Jackson got a double shot basketball game from Santa. He was so excited. Dad spent the day setting up the game, and Jack played it all day long. He also got some Star Wars guys, all five books in the Stink series, a Snuggie, a Ripstick, and lots of other fun things.

In December, Jackson had an eye exam at school, and we received a letter that he needed glasses. In January, we took him to the eye doctor, and he got his first pair of glasses. After this, dad affectionately started calling him "four eyes" (of course, dad wears glasses as well). At first, Jack was excited to wear glasses, but he quickly got tired of them and started avoiding them and leaving them everywhere. | In February, Jackson made it to 100 AR points and got to walk the halls with the principal. He was very excited to have reached this milestone again. Mom and dad went to watch and were so proud!

For Spring Break, mom and the kids went to St. George to visit Grandma Carole and Grandpa Tim. Dad stayed home because of tax season. Jackson enjoyed the warmer weather, the pool that Grandma Carole bought, eating and playing games at Pirate Island, going to the movies with Granny (to see Hop), and going to Jumping Jacks to play in all the bounce houses.

The day before Easter, Dad took the kids fishing on the new fishing boat. Jackson had a blast, but he was a little disappointed that he didn't catch any fish. Here, he is showing off the fish that Andie caught. On Easter Sunday, we went over to Grandma Jackie's house for dinner and an Easter egg hunt. The kids had fun searching for eggs, especially since most of them had money inside! Grandpa Randy recently bought a 4-wheeler for the kids to play on, so they took turns riding around the back yard. Jackson loved riding the 4-wheeler that he could drive by himself. It was a great day playing with cousins and having lots of fun!

 Easter Sunday

Finally...a brother! | Jackson was really excited about a new baby in our family. He woke up the morning of May 19, and Grandma Jackie was there because mom and dad were at the hospital. Gary was born at 10:28 a.m., but Grandma Jackie didn't tell Jackson and Andie whether the baby was a boy or a girl. She made them wait until they could go see the new baby at the hospital that night. Even though Jack had decided that he didn't want a brother (because he never wanted to share his toys or his room), he was so excited about a boy!

 Baseball Time

 Team: Yankees, Coach: Kylie Dabb

Big Brother | Big Brother | the best | ever | Home

Jackson Hole, WY | Joseph Smith Jackson got to play the part of Joseph Smith at 7 years old for a play at the ward party. He had to lay in the bed and refuse alcohol while having surgery on his leg. He did a great job!
