1: Jane Yolen was born on Feb.11.1939 in New York City at Beth Israel. Her full name is Jane Hyatt Yolen. She got her middle name because her grandma's family are the Hyatt's and had only girls.

2: She has a little brother named Steven. Her dad was a cafe' journalist. Jane's mom was a psychiatric social worker till Jane was born.

3: During World War II, Jane, Steven, and their mom had to spend the time with their grandparents. Jane's dad was in the war because of his new job in the military.

4: Jane went to PS93 for grades first to sixth and was a gold star kid. She was tested, and entered Hunter Junior High for grades seventh to eighth, full of gold star kids. Jane had to work hard just to stay in the middle of the class.

5: She took music lessons at Music and Art High School before she went to Bedford Junior High for ninth grade. To finish ninth grade, Jane went to Staples High School and continued until twelfth grade.

6: After finishing high school, Jane was accepted to many colleges. She chose to go to Smith College. In college, she wrote newspaper articles and songs.

7: Jane married David W. Stemple in 1962. He was the chairman of a university computer science department. They had three kids-Heidi, Adam, and Jason. David died of cancer in 2006.

8: Jane began her job as an author on her twenty-second birthday. Before that, she was an editor, a teacher, a storyteller, and songwriter. Now she is a mother and grandmother.

9: After writing her first book-Pirates in Petticoats, Jane became a full-time author. She has written about 300 books so far. Jane has recently begun using a computer. For the past years, she's been using a typewriter.

10: Most of Jane's books are science-fiction and fantasy. She's written non-fiction books as well, and poems in book form.

11: Jane is "always writing" something down, and making sure it entertains her "inner child". She is "endlessly revising" her stories. Or, in her friends' words: "gem polishing."

12: She has made one manga called Foiled, whose main character is based off one of granddaughters. It took Jane a while to find an artist willing to draw the scenes.

13: Jane goes by John Ciardi's saying when she writes her stories: "that a poem is never finished, just abandoned." She goes over her stories many times until someone stops her.

15: The story Briar Rose is like Sleeping Beauty, but with a twist. It has a Holocaust mystery to it. After Gemma dies, Becca's grandma who claims to be a princess, Becca goes out to look for who Gemma was and to find the prince.

16: The book, Devil's Arithmetic is about the Holocaust. This book is historical fiction. The main character, thirteen-year-old Hannah, goes through a door that takes her to a strange village. There, the people call her Chaya. They say she was brought there because her family was killed in her home town.

17: Dragon's Blood is about how the main character, Jakkin Stewart, is a slave wanting to get out of slavery. To do that, he needs a dragon to win a pit fight to earn him enough gold to end his bondage.
