Preface I am from golf courses and long car rides. To weekends with grandma. The smell of the golf courses freshly cut grass fills my mouth. The many sand dunes remind me of little beaches. My name means from the ship island. This is the story of me. I am Kelsey Drew Myring. I was born on February 9th 1999. I am 13 years old. Everything in this story is a part of me, who I am and what I will always be. Come follow me.......
Snow Days When I was younger I loved playing in the snow. Every time I went to my Grandparents house I always wanted to play in the snow. The snow looked like baby powder, but tasted like nothing. I would run around, then fall every few feet. Every time I fell I could feel the crisp cold snow against my cheek. When my grandparents tried to get me to come back inside, I would run away, then fall, then run again until my grandma made me hot chocolate.
t | Chasing Ducks When I was two years old, I would chase ducks around our pond in my backyard. There was this one duck that I really liked, and chased around constantly. I named him Quacky. He had white feathers and short little orange legs. He smelled like wet dog, which was an unpleasant smell. Whenever I saw Quacky outside I would grab animal crackers from inside the kitchen and run throwing animal crackers at my duck, Quacky
Mouse Mania As we step out of the airport to find a taxi, the dry, warm, heat filled my mouth. As I looked around I could see the palm trees and the cars driving by. When the taxi dropped us off at the hotel all I could see was palm trees. When we got to Disney I was so excited to see Mickey and Minnie Mouse. The only rides I remember going on were the spinning tea cups and the Dumbo ride. We stayed all day to watch the beautiful fireworks tower over the amazing Castle with all their bright and amazing colors.
Vegas Baby!!! The bright lights the fancy casinos , the crowds of people, everything I imagined. I remember we stayed at the MGM, and every time we left our hotel I always wanted to see the lions. I could taste the humidity and smoke every time we passed a bar. We went to a Seigfried and Roy show and watched the beautiful snow white tigers hop around on stage and all their beautiful magic tricks. When it was time to go, I never wanted to leave. When we left for the airport I remember driving past all the beautiful hotels and all the bright lights.
Kindergarten The going to sleep early and waking up at 6:00 in the morning. Meeting new friends. The best part of kindergarten was meeting new friends , and learning how to read and write. The nice friendly teacher, show and tell and snacks before we leave are what I remember most. I also remember the pet tarantula, which I did not like because I hate spiders.
Fun in the Sun The cool water, the warm and underneath my feet. The salty water burning my eyes the closer I get to the water. The crowds of people with all their colorful umbrellas and beach towels, so close together you can barley walk through. As I full my buckets with sand and water, and carry them back up the beach. The further I walk the heaver the buckets get. Once I get the buckets back, my dad and I build a sandcastle. The sandcastle wasn't big, but it was the first one I ever made.
Cheer Extravaganza All the hairspray, makeup, and glitter are what I think back to when I did competitive cheerleading. The closer it got to the competition the more nervous I got. As soon as we went on the stage all my nerves went away, and all I could think about was not messing up the routine. At my first competition we got 3rd place and I was so excited that all that had work payed off. The only thing I didn't like about cheerleading was scrubbing all the glitter and eyeliner off my eyes. I could never get the glitter off without hurting my eyelids.
The Dancing Lion The Wizard of Oz was one of my favorite movies when I was little, and when I found out I would be dancing to the Wizard of Oz I was so excited. I was one of the Lions, but I didn't like my costume, I thought the head piece was itchy, and it smelled like shoe cleaner. When we got on-stage I felt like a deer in headlights, because of all the bright lights. I remember the click-clacking of all the tap shoes on the wooden stage. The backstage area smelled like hairspray.
The Nations Capitol The beautiful white house, the Capitol building, and the Washington Monument, all what symbolizes Washington D.C. The craziest memory I have from D.C was a small fire in our hotel. It was the middle of the night and everyone was sleeping, all of a sudden the fire alarm started ringing. We jumped out of our beds, and ran out of the hotel. When we got outside we saw firemen running in the hotel. We were standing outside for almost an hour, what a crazy night that was. One of the best memories I have is seeing the pandas in the zoo.
The Big Apple The place I've always dreamed about going. We stayed in a hotel by Times Square. We went to Times Square a lot. There were so many people walking through Times Square. One day we woke up extra early to go to the Statue of Liberty. The day we went was foggy and the boat ride over was so foggy you could barley see. Once we got to the Statue of Liberty we started climbing. When we got to the top my legs felt like jello. I was very excited to get to climb the winding staircase to the crown of the Statue of Liberty. I looked out the windows of the crown and saw a new view of the city of my dreams.
New Baby Sister When I found out I was going to have a new baby sister I was so excited. I found out my mom was having a baby when we were driving back from South Padre Island, Texas. I got to see the ultrasound pictures.I was so happy to get to be a sister, I was an only child until now. My sister was born June 26 2010. I was at the hospital the Saturday she was born. Her name is Siena Rosemary. Her middle name is my grandma Myring's name. She was born with a head full of thick black hair. She smelled like baby powder.
Friends from Japan When my mom told me we were going to host students from Japan, I didn't know what to think. The students we hosted were extremely nice and fun to spend time with. Their names are Minami and Akari. We took them shopping in Castleton,to Build a Bear Workshop,to the pumpkin path and corn maze. We went to Hoosier Park to watch the horse races. They really liked my cat Grace. I was really sad when it was time for them to leave. We still send packages and letters to each other. We will always be friends even though we are far away.
