John Wilkes Booth, a confederate sympathizer is angry that the South lost to the Union, and he wants revenge. He blames the loss on Lincoln.
Booth found out that Lincoln would be watching a play at Ford's Theater and that is where Booth decided he was going to kill Lincoln. | Booth was then going to run south into Virginia and then further south into South Carolina, he was hoping that along the way Confederate Veterans were going to help Booth make his escape.
Booth was an actor and he knew this theater very well. Booth knew all the exits and all entrances.
Booth then checked the hallways for anyone suspecting him of anything, but no one suspected Booth, he was a well-known actor in Washington. As he checked the hallways one more time, Parker, the man who was supposed to guard Lincoln, left his post. This was the moment Booth was waiting for. As he entered the state box he waited for his cue. And then on April 14 10:15 Lincoln was shot by Booth.
Booth jumped out of the state box and onto the stage and then ran out of the theater and managed to escape out of Washington along with another of his co-conspirator, they stayed in barns, houses, and swamps for a while, but Booth's broken leg had slowed them down.
The last place they hid was a place called Garrett Farm, they slept in the barn one night and the Union soldiers caught up with them, they lit the barn on fire and Herold, one of Booth's co-conspirators, surrendered, while Booth was shot in the back of the neck by a Union soldier. | The End
