Many Europeans settled in the UNITED STATES after the great discovery of the new world. Over time the 13 colonies were formed and wanted to be it’s own nation. They were always being bossed by the king and soon they wanted to rebel. | life in the 13 colonies

Amy Garcia | THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION | The 13 colonies wanted no more of Great Britain and started the American revolution against Britain. The “RED COATS” being British loyalists went on war with the “BLUE COATS” being rebels. America wanted to be a new nation and did whatever it took to do it. Many died and suffered during the revolutionary war. This was perhaps the greatest victory this country has ever won.

THE BILL OF RIGHTS | The BILL OF RIGHTS was written so that Americans can vote in favor of the constitution. It all started smoothly with states voting but then came Massachusetts who opposed and said that this needed more rights and the only way they will vote would be if the constitution had rights, thus the BILL OF RIGHTS was formed!!! The bill of rights was added and they approved.

Erica Smith | Hillary Brown | MANIFEST DESTINY | Manifest destiny was the belief that god wanted the U.S. to be spread from the Atlantic to the Pacific ocean. People built rail roads and started taking over the land of the natives. Natives were being forced out of their land. People used this as an advantage to move further west.

NORTH AND SOUTH | In the north everything was based on technology and industry. Northerners believed that by hard work, ordinary people could acquire wealth and influence between 1800 and 1850, the number of cities with populations of at least 2500 had increased from 33 to 237. In the south southerners depended on slaves. People in the south also depend on farming and lived in huge houses with maids. In the north people just lived in tenements.

AFRICAN-AMERICANS AT MID CENTURY | By 1850, the U.S. had 3.6 million African Americans out of 23 million of it’s population. By mid-century, there were about half a million free blacks as well, many were former slaves who escaped to freedom. There was still a lot of hatred going on with people do to the Jim crow laws.

A DIVIDING NATION | After the election of president Lincoln, he south was very mad because this meant for them to loose power of slaves. Then states decided to separate from the union saying that they came to the U.S. and they could leave from the U.S.. Later after a couple states got divided from the north they started their own nation called the confederacy. All the southern states were confederate and had slaves while the north had it’s growth of industry.

Hillary Brown | THE CIVAL WAR | Lincoln called for 75000 volunteers to come forward to preserve the union. At the same time Davis, president of the south, for troops to defend the south. In the spring of 1861, Lincoln and the general planned a war strategy. Women supported the war as well but this was highly illegal and could get them into serious troubles. Lincoln used slaves as a strategy to win the Confederacy by making them free and Europeans realizing they are with a ‘country’ that had slaves and soon stopped helping them. New technology helped the north and sure enough victory was theirs.

THE RECONSTRUCTION ERA | After the victory of the Civil war Lincoln wanted to get the south to join the south as soon as possible. Abraham was the president of the civil war and was killed shortly after the victory.
