FC: Laura's Life Story By:Ginny Pattison
1: Laura was born on February 7th 1867 in Pepin, Wisconsin. She was the second out of four children.
2: Her sisters were Mary, Carrie, and Grace. She also had a brother named Charles Jr. who died at the age of 9 months old.
3: When Laura was 15 she received her teaching certificate. | After she received it she taught at a small country school for 3 years.
4: When she was a child she lived in 6 different places. That included Independence,Kansas, Spring Valley and Walnut Grove Minnesota, Pepin,Wisconsin, Desmet, South Dakota, and Burr Oak, Iowa.
5: When laura was a child some of her favorite songs were "In the Sweet By and By" and "Pop Goes the Weasel". Her Favorite pet was Jack her first dog.
6: Some of her favorite foods were Roast Pork and Oyster Stew. She also had a huge fondness for candy.
7: She loved to help make Sweet Jam. She also loved ginger bread around the holidays.
8: She loved to eat her moms cornbread when she made it.
9: Laura married Almanzo Manly Wilder on August 25th ,1885. Rose who was their only surviving child was born on December 5th, 1886.
10: In 1894 they left Dakota in a covered wagon with their daughter Rose and moved to a farm in the Ozarks. When she was 65 she published the 1st out of 9 books in the "Little House" books.
11: Her last book "The First Four Years". Published in 1943 she was 76 when she finished her last book.
12: In 1949 her husband Almanzo died at the age of 90. They had nicknames for each other hers was Bess and his was Manly.
13: They were married for 63 years. Laura died on February 10th 1957 in Mansfield, Missouri at the age of 90.
14: She wrote the "Little House Series" "My First Little House books series." and "The Little House chapter books series".
15: The book I read was "Little House in the Big Woods". It is the end of fall and Mr.Wilder is hunting more often so they have food for the winter. Mary and Laura have been helping their Ma store all the meat their dad has brought home in the attic for the winter.
16: Before they knew it Christmas is coming. Mary and Laura help prepare the food for Christmas day. They loved making candy so they could eat it. Their Aunt Eliza, Uncle Peter and their kids usually came and spent Christmas with them. They loved to make picture sin the snow.
17: On Christmas morning they opened their stocking and got candy, red mittens, Laura also got got a doll.On Sundays Mary and Laura got dressed in their best clothes and read the bible and learned about their faith all day. | One day Pa went into town to trade all of his furs for goods. He wasn't home in time to milk the cow so Ma and Laura milk it but there was a huge bear in the fence to get to the cow.
18: Pa didn't get home till late at night because he thought he saw a bear but it was only a broken tree from winter. After all the snow had melted it snowed again. Pa brought home Maple Sugar for Laura and Mary from his fathers farm.
