FC: Life Today if Women Were Not Persons By: Devon C. Elbow Park School, grade six October 7, 2009

In this book you will learn about what life would be like today if women weren't persons. The information provided will describe how women around the world are still fighting for their share of equity and fairness.

My first argument is based on girls rights. Men would think that they should be at home cleaning, preparing dinner, doing laundry, etc., not at school. Personally, I think that men and women should get a share of the work around the house.

In India there are eight million fewer girls than boys in the first five years of education. In northern Africa, there are another 2.5 million fewer girls. In Afghanistan, girls aren't even aloud to be in school. (Source #4 listed.) It's good that women in India are still protesting, because I think everyone should get to be educated.

My next argument is on women and the vote. If women weren't persons then they couldn't vote or be involved in politics at all. In some countries women are still fighting for the vote.

Saudi Arabia is one country in which women aren't able to vote at all. There are also some places in which there is partial suffrage, they are Bhutan | and Lebanon. In Lebanon, women must have proof of education at least at elementary level. In Bhutan there is only one vote per house, and it is usually made by the men. (Source #5 listed.) Women all over the world should have the privilege of voting because they could make their community better by sharing their ideas in politics.

In my last argument I will be explaining what it would be like when you're married when you're not a person. First of all, women would not be able to choose who they love, who they want to marry, or if they want to marry at all would (Arranged marriage.) The father would pick someone high in society, such as a judge, so that he could do favors for the father. I think that's not fair. It's not fair because you may not be old enough, or you'd be living with someone you don't like.

Currently, when the father of a family dies, in his will it will say which of his belongings goes to whom, but if women weren't persons then most of the belongings would probably go to the children. Again, if women weren't persons, then they would do all of the work around the house and the husband wouldn't have to do any of it.

During this project you have read about women and the vote. You learned how so many women and girls wouldn't get the privilege of being involved in politics. You learned about girls that would not be in school, and in my last argument you learned about all of the work women would do if they were married. All of this would happen if women weren't persons.

There are still some women around the world that are not in school, and some that don't get to vote, so it is important that women are still fighting for their share of equity and | fairness. There are now more girls in India that are being educated so the work of suffragists has paid off. I am glad that the Famous Five have made women persons. If women weren't persons, it would affect my life because I wouldn't be able to go to school. Education is a big part of my life, and I'm sure that it is to other people as well so I'm really happy that I'm a person.
