BC: Help End the Conflict Between Israel and Palestine

FC: Israel Palestine Conflict | By Lucas Teklemariam

2: What is the Israeli Palestine border conflict? The Israeli Palestine Border conflict is largely a conflict over land, but religious groups do have an important role in the dispute. The United Nations (UN) intervened and recommended that Palestine give Israel 55% of their land. After Palestine gave Israel their land fighting began because Palestine had lost what had been their homeland for over a 1000 years. In Israel 77% of the people are Jewish and in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank 90% of the people are Muslim. 5,848 people have been killed from September 2000 - July 2007 because of the Israeli Palestine conflict.

3: What is the current situation in Palestine? The Israeli military has confiscated privately owned land in the West Bank and in taken control over Gaza. Over 10,000 Palestinian men, women and children are held in Israeli prisons and few of them have had a legitimate trial. Physical abuse and torture are frequent. Periodically men, women and children are strip searched and people are beaten. Women in labor are prevented from reaching hospitals which sometimes results in death. Food and medicine are blocked from getting into Gaza. Israeli forces invade almost daily injuring, kidnapping and sometimes killing inhabitants.

4: Sleepless Nights Lillian Al-Zebd is a 14 year old schoolgirl in Gaza who has been heavily affected by the Israel Palestine border conflict. She writes about not being able to sleep at night because of the continuous fighting. She can see most all kinds of explosions from her window. Her family tries to distract her by with lessons but she refuses because she is so scared. Every time she hears an airplane fly overhead she jumps off her couch. Lillian can't even sleep alone because the sounds are too loud and frightening. She really misses school and wishes both sides would accept a truce and stop the bombings.
