Once, a long time ago, a princess named Maria had a happy and wonderful life. Her father, King Stephen, was a very intelligent and busy man.
Maria’s life was fantastic up until the day when all the water in Lake Takinami was gone. The people had not realized that one day there would be no more water, and now they had none.
King Stephen was no longer able to spend time with his daughter, because he was trying to find a solution to this massive problem. Little Maria was devastated and lonely. She felt her own father did not love her anymore. She still had to stay home while her went father to many other lands to find people that could cure the lake. Day after day King Stephen would go off to find some sort of magician to retrieve water for the lake, but nothing ever worked.
King Stephen, once again, told Maria that he had to go off on another mission, and wouldn’t be back for several days.
Once he was gone, Maria waited and cried her little heart out for 3 consecutive days in front of Lake Takinami.
When King Stephen returned he saw that little Maria had created a huge mass of water that was even bigger than the original lake. He decided to name this huge body of water a maria, the Latin word for ocean.
With this magnificent talent, she was given immortality by the gods so that she could fulfill Earth’s most vital necessity.
Whenever other kingdoms needed their rivers, oceans, or lakes refilled they would pay significant amounts of money to have Maria come and cry in their land. To get Princess Maria to cry such a great amount, she would have to think back to the days when her father would abandon her. She would ponder over those long, perilous hours until she had created exactly what that kingdom had needed.
Then she would be awakened from her reverie, and would gratefully travel to whichever kingdom required her gift next.
