1: Summary of Novel In the story Chinese Cinderella, written by Adeline Yen Mah, Adeline was a bad luck child from birth.When she was born her mother died two weeks later. That is a symbol of bad luck. Most of her family was Chinese but her mother was part French. Her dad, siblings, and step-mother, frown upon her. Aunt Baba is the only person to show respect to her. She is an honors student at her school.Throughout her whole life she had to live with out people caring about her. 2: THEME In Chinese Cinderella, Adeline Yen Mah, wants you to understand that even when things are down you have to keep trying you best to make things better. | Kyle

3: Example 1 (pg 175) In the story the parents came to the school to pick up their children. Adeline's parents never came to pick her up. Adeline kept trying her best to do better in school and eventually she won the play writing contest. | Kyle

4: THEME Example 2 (pg 100) Another example was when her friend was having a birthday party. She could not go to the party because she is not allowed to go to friends houses. She got away from home and had a fun time. She got caught, but it was worth it. | Kyle

5: Example 3 (pg 104) Another example was that Adeline was getting in trouble and yelled at for something she did not do. She went up to her room and wrote in a journal to get all her bad feelings out. She then felt better. | Kyle

6: CHARACTERIZATION Obstacle # 1 Adeline is poorly treated by her parents and siblings. | Kevin

7: Adeline overcame obstacle one by going to school as much as she could. It especially helped when she went to boarding schools. | Kevin

13: Women need to have small feet to be pretty. They are really formal to their elders and siblings. Like they cal their brother brother instead of their name. They have very strict rule in the house-holds. They schools are very strict also. The are very loyal to their religion and culture. They are very respectful. | Jack

14: Culture and Ethnic group changes. We thought that all the Chinese did was make toys and other products in a factory. Now after we read the book we know that China has a very complex culture and country. I believe that Chinese is one of the longest lasting cultures in the world. Because it started in 1700 B.C. as the Shang Dynasty. They have specific traditions. Like if a child kills their mother at birth it is known as bad luck. | Jack
