A mother and her puppies is called a litter.

My name is Sunny. I have many puppies - fifty in all. My puppies were born in six litters. The first few days with my puppies are very busy. My puppies and I are getting to know one another. After a few days, I know who eats the most, who sleeps the most and the puppies who like to snuggle the most.

Some puppies are more playful than others.

Some puppies are more curious than others.

Some puppies are hungrier than others.

Sometimes a puppy will get left out. | Sometimes a puppy would get left out of a feeding. I know that I must watch out for those puppies because my pen mate, Misty, would always beat me to the biscuits people would throw into the pen for us.

Misty always beat me to the biscuit.

After all my puppies left me one by one with their new families, I lived in another pen with a dog named Misty (the dog who always beat me to the biscuits).

I missed you before you were gone.

I know a mother is not supposed to have favorites but it always feels like the puppy leaving me is my favorite.

I wondered why anyone would want to take me home.

One day, I heard a woman say that she was looking for a dog, not a puppy. She looked at me the same way people looked at my puppies just before they take the puppies home with them. I wondered why anyone would want to take me home.

 I suddenly got very frightened.

A few days later the same woman came back to take me to her home. I suddenly got very frightened and pushed as hard as I could not to take another step. I finally got in the car. I had never ridden in a car. The seat was soft and warm and the breeze felt cool and different than any breeze I had ever felt.

 "Almost where?" I wondered.

Mary spoke on the phone and I heard her say that Sunny was going to 10 Fairview Street. She sounded very excited. Every once in a while she would turn to me and say, "we are almost there." "Almost where?" I wondered.

I knew we were going to be special friends.

Later that day I entered 10 Fairview Street - my new home. Brigid Perry was waiting for me and gave me a big hug! I knew we were going to be special friends.

 I like to be downwind.

My favorite place to sit is on the "comfy couch" by the door because that way I can see who is coming in the door. I like to be "downwind." When you are downwind you are facing the person (or animal) coming toward you.

My puppies like to snuggle in the "tender splendor."

Mike, Brigid's brother, liked giving me nick names. There is a place between my hind leg and my large belly he called the "tender splendor" because he knew my puppies would be warm and cozy in that spot right next to me.

"Come on Sunny, you can do it!"

I enjoy my runs while Mary coaxes me along. "Come on Sunny. You can do it!"

"Sunny, what a good swimmer you are."

I get very hot in the summer. The first time Mike and Mary put me in the pool I was very frightened. But each time I swam, I enjoyed the water more. And I really like the Perry family saying "Sunny, what a good swimmer you are."

 A promise is a promise.

All and all, 10 Fairview Street is a wonderful place to live. The family here loves me the way I love my puppies. I never dreamed that would happen to me. Mary said that the only promise she ever remembered making was the promise to Brigid and Mike to bring a dog home. And lucky for me, I was the dog Mary brought home.
